"Wait! Hold up, don't leave me out", Lyla jumps in to break our silence.
"Sorry Lyla, its only that I noticed her first"
I quickly move away from Carl to avoid getting pat on the head.
"Stop treating me like a little kid, I'm almost over with high school"
"I know but you are so small"
"More like you, a bit too tall", Lyla says and I look away from Carl, I didn't even realize that he was looking at me wistfully.
"So we are going to practice, want to come see me in action?"
"Not really"
"Sure! Let's go!", Lyla says almost jumping. I ended up giving into her enthusiasm and got dragged over to the basketball court. Even though the area had some lighting, this place felt rather chilly and unsettling.
"You guys are finally here!", Jayson says grinning when he sees us and the other boys turn around giving us smiles. I felt slightly relieved to see my old classmates gathered together. I know its summer and even though it was really hot in the morning this place felt cold for some reason.
"Ok so you two join us . . . err maybe not with that outfit", I look down and I'm ok, with short shorts and a simple but cute shirt of Minnie. But when I look at Lyla I realize she is wearing a baby blue summer dress that matches her stunning blue eyes. Despite my deadpan nod Carl cheerfully continues to speak.
"Watch me own this game! Oh and you too Lyla!"
"You are just so obsessed with Alexa", and Carl just answers with a sheepish grin and ran towards the others, with Carl nowhere near us Lyla turns to me.
"So Alexa, tell me honestly. What's your take in this?
"What do you mean by that?", pretending to not understand her intention did not work this time, so she continued.
"There are many other girls obsessed with Carl, you know?"
Carl has a very outgoing personality so he is often invited by not only the basketball team, but many other sports team too. I really cannot believe he is not joining any other teams just because he wants to talk to me more.
"A popular childhood friend, you guys are really close. It's like the stars are lined up so perfectly, yet you don't really care. It'd be nice if someone like Carl could be with you"
"We would not be a good couple. I live somewhere really far away plus he is really popular"
"Oh come one! If you keep being like that then I'm gonna go for him"
Not being sure of what to say to that, I looked in a random direction.
