Even after they left Carl did not relax his stiff expression, I am really wondering why he is not being himself. The Sun was nowhere to see, the sky was covered in black with a full moon and a few stars decorating it.
"Hey, we should head back. The game is over and there is nothing else to do here", said one of the boys.
"Alright, we are calling it a day", Carl agrees.
"That was a great game! Right Alexa?", said Lyla as she elbowed me as I said to Carl,
"Yeah, it was a good game indeed"
"Thanks", he responds with a big familiar smile that was fond of since childhood. I wonder if it is me the one that is changing?
My train of thoughts were interrupted when my phone started ringing.
"What's up?"
"It is pretty late already do you want us to go pick you up or are you staying over at Carl's?" my mom asks.
"I'm not sure yet let me ask him", I pull the phone away from my face and turn to him.
"Do you want me to stay over at your place?"
"Sure"
"He says its ok"
"Ok, then we will see you tomorrow by lunch time at twelve, take care"
"Ok, goodnight", and I hang up.
"I'm staying at your place, lead the way captain. Oh Lyla did your mom let you stay over?"
"No, I've only known Carl for a few months so she does not fully trust him but we are getting closer", she lets out a sigh.
"It is ok, I'm sure that next time Alexa comes over your mom will let you stay over", Carl pats her on the back giving her a sympathy look.
"Do not pretend to feel sorry, you now got her all to yourself", she says giving him a playful glare.
"What? Why would I want that? It hurts that you do not trust me. You are just like your mother", he gives her an accusing finger and she gasps at his words.
"How dare you compare me to my mother? You. . You exercise freak"
"That's the best you got?", he burst laughing at her words and I myself find myself laughing none stop at Lyla's response.
"Let's just continue this talk another time I'm sure Alexa is hungry"
"You bet, but first let's leave Lyla at her place just to make sure she gets home safe"
"Dude this is not Miami where you are, people don't get robbed. I'll be fine, you go get some food"
I ended up agreeing with her nerveless I was still a little worried. We arrive at Carl's place really fast and I went directly to lay on the bed while he went to get me some food. From under the covers I looked around and even though I came over every summer there is always something new in his room, last year it was a huge poster from a movie that is as old as time but he really enjoys watching it. While looking around I noticed a simple but captivating necklace in his nightstand and I reached for it, the paw of a dog, no it was the paw of a wolf you can tell because of the claws, with a small blue rock in the middle and a weird language around it. A shiver runs down my spine and I get back under the covers while I look at it, it is captivating as if something is pulling you towards it.
"Hey, is kiwi juice and a sandwich ok?"
"Yeah thanks", I sit down and reach for the plate letting the necklace fall on the floor
"Oops sorry"
"That's ok let me get it", he reaches for it and sets in on the nightstand.
"It's pretty", I comment.
"What is?", he questions.
"The pendant"
