Chapter one:
Nalani Asani
Getting frustrated in the middle of drawing, Nalani crumpled up the paper and tossed it in the garbage disposal next to her.
Grabbing another paper, just when she was anout to pick up the pencil again, there was a knock at the door, causing her to look up.
Her usual nurse she was accustom seeing came in with a clipboard in her hand and smiled.
"Hi Nalani. How you doin'?" She asked her, stepping more into the room.
Instead of answering, she stared at her, wanting for her to get to the point as to why she was here.
Nalani wasn't the one to give any of the workers at the rehab facility she was in attitude but today was just one of those days where she wanted to be left unbothered.
"I take that as bad?" She awkwardly laughed, her question sounding more like a statement.
Seeing that Nalani wasn't laughing, she cleared her throat, quickly ending her laughter.
She sighed, shaking her head. "Oh come on. You should be happy today. You're parents are visiting you today."
Now interested in what she had to say, Nalani finally spoke. "They are?"
"Yeah. So cheer up." She patted her back. "I just came to check on you by the way so I'm leaving right now as I speak."
Slightly smiling at her last comment, she stood up.
"You're leaving too?" The nurse asked her as she seen her following her out the door.
"I'm just grabbing sum' to eat. I haven't eaten all day." She replied honestly.
"Oh well since you're out, you should of check out the activity they're doing in the main room." She suggested.
"I'm not really in the mood for all of that."
"That's fine. Just thought you might be interested."
Well I'm not she thought.
After grabbing a small snack from the vending machine, Nalani went back into her room and decided to rest for a while until her parents arrived.
It made her happy to see that after all the things she did in the past, they didn't abandon her and was with her very step of the way since she was put into rehab.
That includes her one of her closest friends, Kendra that visited her almost every time she was available to.
Twenty minutes into her nap, a few small knocks caused her to slowly open her eyes.
Looking over, one of the lady's who worked at the front desk appeared at the door.
"You're moms out front waiting for you."
Nalani slowly got up, heading towards the door as she ran her fingers though her half shaved hair.
Dragging her feet down the hallway, she followed behind the lady, passing other rooms in the process.
A smile appeared on Nalani's face as her mom stood there, returning the gesture.
None of them exchanged words as her mother, Daniella pulled her into a tight hug.
"I miss you so much." Nalani mumbled as they pulled away.
"I'm miss you too baby. When you get outta' here we need to do sum' with your hair. I still can't believe you cut half of it." She shook her head, pulling at the strands of her hair causing Nalani to slightly roll her eyes.
"Where's dad?" She asked her, changing the subject off her hair.
"He's at work. He might come by next week though with me again."
"Oh." was all she said as they both took a seat on the chairs on the side.
"What's wrong Lani?" Her mother said shifting in her seat so she could face her as she held her hands.
"Nothing. I'm just tired." She sighed.
"Tired as in tired of this place or sleepy tired?"
"Both. I hate it here. They treat you as if you're a little kid."
"It'll be over before you know it. You just have two more months here and then you could leave. Plus it's for you're own good right?" She explained.
When Nalani didn't reply her mother asked her again.
"Right?"
"Right." She muttered.
Smiling at her, they sat there and talked for about an hour before it was eventually time for Nalani to head back to her room.
Silently saying a small pray to herself, she headed to bed and thought about how the rest of her two months would be there. She just hoped it would pass by fast.
