Jack had been sniffing all round the werewolf camps and villages in the highlands trying to track her down but so far he has had no luck. Sofia was his only child and he had loved her with all his heart until the hunters came.

**FLASHBACK**

It was a warm June evening and Jack was manning the BBQ while his mate Diane was setting the table and grating cheddar cheese for the burgers when an alarm was sent through the pack's mind connection that danger was coming. Diane immediately went over to the playpen where six month old Sofia was sitting happily eating a Rusk; Diane picked her up and hid her in an old flour sack that they had stored some of her toys in.

A gunshot rang out through the woods that surrounded their house followed by a howl of pain "Quick run I will hold them back!". Jack shouted to Diane in his Alpha tone that ensured she would obey.

Jack was Alpha of the McLeod pack who ruled a large pack on the outskirts of the highlands and through natural selection in their favour the pack was extremely powerful due to Jack and his mate Diane's blood heritage which in turn would make Sofia one of the most powerful heiresses to a very powerful and loyal pack.

They were the reason for the hunters coming, the hunters had been looking for their pack for years in a bid to rid the world of the most powerful packs and to do that they killed the Alpha and his family first then took out the rest with silver bullets and hybrid dogs. The hunters were the only thing that Jack feared but more for his wife and daughters life which is why he has to send them away, they where the two people in his life that he truly loved and would die to protect them.

Diane was sobbing inconsolably as she kissed her husband goodbye, they had only been together two years and the thought that she might never see him again filled her with so much pain it hurt but she knew that the hunters will kill Sofia if they find her.

Diane ran off through the trees at lightning speed with Sofia held tightly to her chest. Suddenly from nowhere a huge black dog came out from nowhere and pounced on top of her which made her drop the sack which luckily landed behind a bush out of sight.

The dog wasn't a normal dog that humans have, these are specially bred by the hunters as they are vicious but don't have a scent like a wolf does so werewolves don't register that they are there. They are hormone enhanced to make them larger, fiercer and made notorious trackers, once they have a wolf's scent they will track them down to the ends of the earth if they have to.

The dog ripped viciously into her side causing her to scream in pain as the flesh was torn right down to the bone, the dogs claws had silver flakes glued on to them so that when they attack the silver embeds into the wound and stops them from healing or shifting. If they couldn't shift and the wound was deep enough they will bleed to death. Diane had one such wound.

Out of sheer motherly instinct Diane mustered all of her residual strength and grabbed the mutant dogs jaws and pulled them apart causing bone fragments to pierce the skull and the dog fell into a seizure before dying.

Diane glanced at her side that was missing a huge chunk of flesh and without shifting into her wolf she wouldn't be able to heal fast enough to carry on. One other side effect of silver was it stopped them shifting.

She sat there for a second trying to fight the pain barrier until she heard a faint sound like a car engine in the distance. She summoned the remaining life she had in her to pick up Sofia and sprint towards the sound of the engine. She heard another gunshot in the distance and knew it was getting closer. Time was running out!

Headlights were now starting to appearing through the trees which made Diane even more determined to reach them 'I hope they aren't hunters!' is all she seemed to think trying not to think about whether her husband was already dead or not but she felt in her heart he was still alive...for now at least.

She reached the middle of the road just seconds before the car which made the driver brake hard. Luckily by just looking at them she could see that they looked like decent people although human who might hinder the hunters hunt on her Sofia. They were around the early to mid forties, they were a bit older but would still able to raise their precious baby, not that she had any choice it was either them or the hunters. After pleading with them to take her she took one more look behind her and ran back through the woods in search of her husband to die by his side.

**END OF FLASHBACK**

Jack had stayed behind to fight the hunters with the rest of the pack and luckily the hunters had under estimated the strength of his pack and they had managed to kill off a majority of them before they fled. He sat and called and called for his wife but nothing came back so him and a few of his top fighters set out to find his family.

After about an hour he picked up on a faint scent that belonged to Diane and raced to her only to find her dying on the forest floor "Jack... Hold my hand!" she called out in a barely audible voice. He sat down beside her and noticed the huge gash on her side, he sobbed uncontrollably as he lifted her cool hand up to his mouth and kissed it tenderly"

I am so sorry, this should me dying here not you" he sobbed but all she done was smile at him weakly and say "At least I will die knowing that our daughter is safe" and with those words she quietly passed away.

So now empty of half his soul without his mate he has searched for the last two and a half years for his Sofia. He knew in what was left of his heart that there was no use in searching before the age of sixteen as that's when they mature and take possession of all the wolf traits that makes them all unique and as his child he was hoping the mind connection would kick in when he got close enough. He just hoped she was still in the highlands or he would have a long search on his hands.
