"Dean." Castiel watches the hunter walk around the room and do miniscule tasks such as fixing the covers on the bed, stacking the trash from last night's dinner, and avoiding eye contact. "Dean." Cas is new to this; that was the first time him and Dean had shared physical contact that wasn't necessary. All he knows is he feels wrong and empty when Dean's not around. His grace is uncomfortable within him, and can only be calmed when he is with Dean. Castiel had heard Dean calling for him, and to the angel's surprise Dean had done so in his sleep.
Cas had arrived to Dean violently thrashing in his sleep and mumbling the angel's name. When Cas gently said the hunter's name, he calmed down slightly, but it wasn't until the angel sat in the bed that Dean was truly calm. Castiel was as surprised as Dean is now when the hunter grasped his legs and pulled him close.
The only problem is that Dean seems upset now. "Forgive me, Dean." Cas'whisper is low and severely humble as he drops his head and stares at the oldcarpet. Dean stops dead in his tracks Cas' voice alone is enough to bring tearsto his eyes. All his pent up emotions and secret feelings for Cas come to the surface. There is sadness, pain, and... longing in the angel's deep voice. "Cas...it's-it'sfine. You didn't do anything wrong..." He takes a step toward Castiel, but Casflinches and backs away. That's when Dean's first and only tear falls. "No."Dean says this more to himself than to Cas. "Don't do that." Dean's gruff voicebreaks, "Please. Don't." The last thing he would ever want is to make Castielflinch and back up; it implies that he's scared or just doesn't want to be byDean which sets Dean's insides on fire. Cas is staring at Dean with his headtilted, eyebrows furrowed, and the angel is confused. They stare at each otherfor a bit before Dean's voice clears and he says, "Let's just forget italright? Everything needs to go back to normal." The angel smiles and nods;although secretly, Cas is slightly uncomfortable with 'forget it.'
As Deanturns to finish whatever he was doing, Sam pops in the door suddenly nearlyknocking Cas off his feet. Dean lunges forward and catches him; he smiles atCas' smell. It's a soap and minty mixture that Dean doesn't mind breathing in.Dean clears his throat in an attempt to shrug off what happened before Samentered the room, and at least pretend to be normal with the angel's presence."Whoa, let's not stand by doors anymore. 'Kay?" Their faces are inches apart, they're breathing each other's air, and just completely lost in each other'seyes. The moment, however, is over as soon as it started. "Oh, sorry, Cas. Ididn't realize you were here." Sam apologizes quickly then goes to the tablewith information about the case that brought them here in the first place."It's fine, Sam. I suppose I am at fault for not remembering the intendedpurpose of doors and the fact that people do come through them." Dean smiles atthis, and takes a seat at the table.
Sam starts talking about the case, butDean isn't paying attention to Sam. He's paying attention to the angel whopicked up and started reading a section of newspaper. Cas' brow furrows and hecocks his head; he's obviously confused by something. Dean chuckles which earnsan irritated look from Sam, "Dude, what is possibly funny about multiplemurders?" Dean's cheeks suddenly color and before he can look away from Cas,Sam has seen where Dean was looking. Sam sighs deeply, "Have you guys eatenanything?" He didn't wait for a response, "Great, I'll go get something." Sam startslooking for his wallet he misplaced among the case information and Cas is stillconfused about the newspaper. "Whatcha got there?" Dean casually asks, gratefulfor the absence of the awkwardness from before. Cas looks up suddenly, butseriously. "What is a..." Cas looks at the paper and enunciates, "Chi-weinie? Ithas a picture of a canine, but I can't recall this species." Dean snorts, "It'sa Chihuahua and a weinie dog mix." Cas nods his head, and looks up from thepaper, "Goodbye, Sam." Sam acknowledges with a, "See you in a bit." So Samleaves.
Cas moves his direction of eyesight from the door to Dean. He's staringstraight into Dean's amused eyes, but the amusement soon fades and somethingelse replaces it. Green and blue eyes ignite and become multiple shades darker. They both stand at the same time, but it's Cas who approaches Dean. Heapproaches slowly while looking up at Dean through his long, thick lashes. Deanhas a lump in his throat that he can't swallow past, so he opens his mouth tobreathe. What he didn't realize was that Castiel had backed him into the wall.
