Kylie Minogue is an Australian pop singer, song writer, dancer and actor that has been in the biz since the 80s. To many she is known as the Princess of Pop or Queen Kylie but to most people she is simply known as Kylie. (She fought the battle against Kylie Jenner who was trying to trademark the name, Jenner lost. Yay Kylie)

Kylie is the highest selling Australian act of all time.

She was appointed by the French government as a Chevalier (knight) of the for her contribution to the enrichment of French culture. She is also one of the most successful dance artist in the word with record sales of 800 million.

Looking past the awards we can see her commercial success and critical acclaim but it wasn't always that way. In the beginning, Kylie got slammed. She wasn't taken seriously as an artist as most people saw her as a manufactured pop star due to her time on Soap Opera Neighbours (don't you dare ask me about that.)

A campaign by Virgin Radio once stated, "We've done something to improve Kylie's records: we've banned them."

Kylie proved them all wrong, critics as well by lasting far longer than anyone really expected and she built up her own fan base

Kylie proved them all wrong, critics as well by lasting far longer than anyone really expected and she built up her own fan base. Her style is forever changing and she's a trendsetter who isn't afraid to go out there. Kylie is forever making some brave but questionable artistic decisions.

Most of her music is sugary infectious pop. It's addicting and it generally it makes you feel good. Can't Get You Out My Head is addicting... annoyingly addictive

A massive part of Kylie Minogue's fame is her gay following. She has one of the largest gay followings in the world.

Kylie has said. "I am not a traditional gay icon. There's been no tragedy in my life, only tragic outfits" and "My gay audience has been with me from the beginning ... they kind of adopted me."

It was in 1988 she first became aware of her gay audience as she saw some Drag Queens performing her songs in a pub in Sydney, later seeing something in Melbourne

She said that she felt "very touched" to have such an "appreciative crowd", and this encouraged her to perform at gay venues throughout the world including headlining 1994 Gay and Lesbian Marti Gras in Sydney.

That's why Kylie is the Queen to many people around the world.

Whether you like her songs or not you cannot deny her influence, her success. Her eye for trends and her talent at being able to reinvent her style so many times over all while still being herself. Classy Kylie.

" I love Kylie, she's the anti-Madonna. Self-knowledge is a truly beautiful thing and Kylie knows herself inside out. She is what she is and there is no attempt to make quasi-intellectual statements to substantiate it. She is the gay shorthand for joy."
