2 | The Punk Next Door

We arrived at our destination and stepped out of the cab. My mom had been telling us how beautiful this place is, and I hate to admit it but she was right.

I looked in front of me and I saw a big modern house with a cozy vibe to it. The first things that caught my attention was the dark-gray and hazel colors and the big glass windows, that looked more like some type of wall to be honest. The orange-ish color of the sun setting in the background made everything even prettier.

Caleb slowly walked over to me "This place isn't bad, huh." he whispered in my ear while both of our eyes were still glued to the sight of the house. I could see him smirking in the corner of my eyes.
"Yeah, how did mom even find this place?" He ignored me and started walking towards the huge doors, so I naturally followed him.

When my mom unlocked the door the first thing I saw was the dark wooden floor. We were now standing in the hallway that lead to the bright living room where I could see a few dust particles collapsing with the golden sunlight. It was like watching your favourite movie, getting that present you've always wanted and listening to your favourite song... all at once. I was already in love with this place and the foreign feeling it gave me, that normal people apparently called 'home'. I could see myself running around this place as a 7 year old playing hide and seek with my dad... my dad.

I felt a piercing rush through body and sadness crept into my face. I quickly distracted myself with other thoughts before I actually got emotional. With my stomach still in a tight knot I let my sight take over my thoughts.

With every step I took I heard the wooden floor creak under my feet. I explored the house for a bit and it truly took my breath away. I'd found home. But then I realized we would probably leave this place in about a year, I sighed at the thought of it.

"Do you guys like this place?" My mom asked, interrupting my thoughts. Should I tell her the truth or not? "It's ok." I lied. I couldn't give her the impression that I liked this place, not after complaining for months.

"She's lying." Caleb bluntly said out of nowhere, I gave him my best death glare but I probably ended up looking like there was something stuck in my eye. He rolled his eyes at me which we seemed to be doing a lot at each other.

Caleb and I let our tired bodies fall on the couch, and observed every inch of the living room from there. After a long day of traveling this was all I needed, silence.

"Why don't you guys go pick your rooms?" My mom suggested, breaking my train of thoughts for the second time. Before I could process what my mom had said Caleb was already running up the stairs. "Dude thats not fair!" I yelled at him knowing that he would get the larger bedroom. "Nobody said it would be fair!" He responded from upstairs. I quickly ran the same path he had gone and found myself standing in front of the first door I could find. I slowly opened the door, curious to what it looked like from the inside.

The room was dim, the last gleams of sunlight tried to make their way into the room through the glass wall that led to the balcony. I slid the door to the balcony open and stood there, I didn't have much of a view, just the house next to us. A breeze of fresh air hit my face and made my hair dance into different directions.

I was staring, right in front of me. Just taking in the calm before the storm, a.k.a school. Not knowing what to do or to think. I didnt know how long I'd been standing there, all I knew was that my elbows were getting sore from leaning on the rails of the balcony, my head was resting in my hands. All of the sudden I saw something move in my vision that had gotten blurry from staring. I blinked a few times until it got clear.

Right in front of me, probably 20 meters from my balcony, there was a room just like mine. It had a big glass window, again, just like mine.

I squinted my eyes and focused on the person that was moving around the room, it was a tall guy with blond hair peeking out from under his snapback. My eyes scanned his body, black skinny jeans, some sort of band t-shirt, tattooed sleeves. From what I could see he looked like the type of guy that would get in trouble everyday, would skip classes and had the girls tripping if he'd simply wink at them. And I could see why, he wasn't ugly, atleast from this distance. He was actually kind of attractive. I wasn't one to fall for the bad boy type, but this guy was an exception.

I mentally slapped myself, what the fuvk was I thinking? I realized I should probably go into my room before my neighbor could catch me staring at him like he was the best thing I'd ever seen.

Just as I was about to turn my back towards the sight of the boy, knowing that I would get caught at some point, I noticed a girl walk into his room. She had fire red hair and was wearing a little black dress with ripped pantyhose underneath. She looked like trouble, chaos actually. They were perfect for each other, weren't they?I felt myself tense up when I saw that they were now standing in front of each other with just a few inches parting them, both smiling. When they closed the gap with their lips I immediately turned around and ran inside.

I guess he was just a boy who liked to play with fire, and she was his perfect match.

I was laying in bed and somehow I couldn't stop thinking about him. he was like that song you couldn't get out of your head. Part of me was hoping that I would meet him, part of me was wishing that I would be smart enough to stay away from him.  Not that he would notice me anyway, because he is obviously way out of my league. But hey, a girl can dream, right?
