After they finished working on their project, Caitlyn politely asked Zayn if he could take her to go pick up her car. She had left it last night parked outside the venue where Harry hosted his party because she was too under the influence to drive herself anywhere after, and Niall wouldn’t really have let her anyways.  She called Niall numerous times before asking Zayn, not wanting to be a bother, but of course Niall didn’t pick up. Niall was a very lazy boy, and she was sure that he knew just what she was calling him for. He probably had no intention of getting off his couch all day since last night and this morning. He was probably still upset with her for the way she woke him up this morning too. She didn’t really care. She had to do what she had to do to get to school on time.

Zayn, being the gentlemen he was, didn’t give Caitlyn a hard time for it at all. She wasn’t sure whether he s being completely honest when he said he had nowhere to be and that is was truly no problem, but after asking twice, she chose just to take his word for it. She really didn’t want to have to call Harry to come pick her up. There were so many downsides to that. For starters, she really had no intention of seeing him after he spent the night with Jesselyn. She knew it was irrational for her to be upset with him, but usually when it came to Harry there was no rationally left. If there was, she wouldn’t still be pinning for him. And really, whenever Harry showed up anywhere now days, it was always chaos. She’d rather not be a part of that.

She didn’t want to call her mom for one of the same reasons she didn’t want to call Harry: she didn’t want to seem dependent or in need of either of them. After what Harry had told her in the morning about him and her mom being worried for her safety almost all of the time and looking out for her, she really didn’t want to give them any reasons to think she needed them to think that way. She didn’t. She meant what she had said to Harry earlier in the morning, about not needing to be babysat. She was old enough to take care of herself, and she didn’t want anyone sticking around just because they thought she wasn’t.

Zayn was different. Zayn wasn’t really the kind of guy who worried too much about people needing him, even if they did. He was kind of just there because he wanted to be and not because he needed a reason to be. He had always been the same with Caitlyn, even when her name wound up in the papers. He was always kind, and playful, and all of what made him Zayn. Never did he change with her, and never would she wish he would. She liked him just the way he was, and she especially liked the way he saw her.

They reached the parking lot in good time. It was almost four, but traffic didn’t start until a while and Caitlyn was thankful for that. The drive from the venue to her home would not be a short one and with heavy traffic, she would be stuck on the highway for hours at end.

She smiled over to him, opening her mouth to thank him when she saw him put his car on park.

“I’ve got this thing on Saturday and I think it would be really cool if you showed up,” he said, sneaking a small glance over at her. She smiled, because the way he had just spoken to her was casual, so easy-flowing. It was almost as if he hadn’t invited her somewhere at all. Things with Zayn were never complicated.

“What’s the thing?” she asked, a small teasing tone to her voice.

He smirked, his lop-sided smirk that she found herself comparing to Harry’s more often than she liked. She tried to focus on just Zayn, and his lop-sided grin that wasn’t mischievous like Harry’s, but just the right hint of mysterious mixed in with just the right amount of adorable.
