You got what you needed and nothing more;
You never took advantage but you never really knew what you had.

With thoughts of romance no stronger than a passing fancy.
She dreamed constantly of ways she could finally call you hers
Of her love you were undeserving, but she never dared to question it.

Her mistake was believing you cared; your mistake was that you didn't
She adored you, endlessly; more than she'd ever admit
Because all she ventured to share was nothing more than an abridged affection
Anything more would scare you away.
Her unwarranted fear of losing you dominated every move,
Her every thought,
Her every word
How her love remained unapparent to you remains a mystery,
For if you gave her the attention she dreamed she had, you would have defined her by it
