**the first chapters are aweful and poorly written but the writing and story becomes better later on so if the story intrigues you, please keep reading**

Dan's POV

I dreaded going to school. Every. Day. I was known as the school's 'Bad Boy'. I didn't mind though since all everyone did was make assumptions about my life. Nobody really knew me. I wasn't at all intimidating, I wasn't emotionally strong (or physical for that matter), I don't bully people, I care for my family and I'd care for my friends if I had any, overall I wasn't at all of what people assumed.

I turned off the extremely irritating noise of my alarm clock and stumbled out of bed. After freshening up I threw on the first sweatshirt and jeans I could find. I grabbed my phone to look at the time and noticed my battery was at 15% . Great. It was about a 15-20 minute walk to school and I usually listened to music but I didn't want my phone to die in the middle of the day so I walked in silence. Music makes it a bit more bearable to get through the school day. It was a chillier kind of day considering it was June but I enjoyed it and made my way to school...dreadful, school.

I walked to my first class of the day which was chemistry. I sat down at an empty table and the teacher, Ms. Gordy instantly started once everyone was sat down.

A boy walked in slightly late with a guilty look on his face. I feel like I've seen him somewhere and I don't remember his name but I didn't care until Ms. Gordy made him sit at the same table as me. Great. He seemed scared of me. I understand why, I didn't have a very friendly vibe. I was dressed in mostly black and if you asked anyone about me, 90% of people would think that I've murdered someone. We were assigned to create a chemical reaction and of course I was with the boy.

"You know you don't have to be scared of me, I won't bite you" I looked up at the sheepish boy
"I-I know" he stuttered
"What's your name?" I asked so it'd be easier to communicate to him
"Phil"
"I'm Dan" I looked up with a nod and then immediately looked back down at the beaker.

I mixed a few things into the beaker and within seconds a small explosion happened.

"Woah!" The bo- Phil said obviously amazed at the simple science, "That was so cool"
"Mhm" I cleaned up the mess as Phil helped.

The rest of the period was writing notes and the teacher had assigned a homework assignment in which we had to make a model of a volcano that erupted. Ugh, what are we? 3rd graders?

"When can we work on this?" I asked
"Um well you can come to my house after school and we can work on it? I don't think we can work on this at school.." Phil suggested
"Sure, whatever. I'll meet you in the front hall after school."

I'll admit, I don't really want to work with Phil and I don't think that it'll turn out great. I could tell we were so different and I don't know anything about him. I guess I'll find out what'll happen but it'll be no different then all the other shy kids I've had to work with.

The rest of the day went by as boring as always. My phone has dropped to 8% and I still needed to go to Phil's house. I sat and ate my lunch alone like I normally do but this time I just had to sit in silence because of the lack of battery I had in my phone. I was walking towards my next classroom as the bell rang and then I saw Phil again. A bell went off in my head and that's when I recognized him, he was in my English class. As I went to my normal seat I realized Phil sits right in front of me.

"Your assignment for the next few weeks is to make a poem. You can make it about whatever you want, but you will be in partners." The teacher spoke

A girl raised her hand. "Can we choose our partners?" the girl glanced over at another girl, giggling and I'm guessing they were friends.

The teacher spoke again, this time a bit more stern, "No, you will not. Everyone in the first row is working with the person who is behind you in the second row, everyone in the third row is working with the forth and so on. That means that I have to work with Phil. Again. The poem could be about anything so I thought of a few different ideas and some lines or starting points. The bell rang and I was stopped before I exited the room.

"Dan?" I heard a voice behind me call out. I turned around to see Phil walking over to me
"Yeah?"
"Since we're going to be working on this and the volcano together we can work on that too after school today" he shifted his eyes downwards while talking
"Sure. I'll see you later"
"Okay, see you then"

---

The end of the day had come and I was walking to the front doors. I don't know how well we'll get this done. He's shy and stutters, I speak my mind. He wears coloured clothes and I wear all black, he had an energy to him and I do everything with minimal effort. There is about a hundred differences between us. We were polar opposites and I didn't know how this was going to work out.

I walked towards Phil and I's meeting spot and he was already there. "Ready?" He asked and I just nodded in response. We'll probably do these assignments and never speak again; just like always.
