"So Cas, how come you don't know anybody around here? Surely a nice guy like you must have a couple friends."
"I just moved here at the beginning of the semester and I've been too busy to really meet anyone."
"Huh, so why did you move? And why here? I mean, it's not exactly the most exciting place in the world." Cas's face drops and for a second, I swear, he looks almost scared. That fear alarms me and I feel the sudden urge to protect Cas.
"I moved because... well I had some problems with a... friend. And it's not so bad here. It's quiet and it has a bee farm nearby." An awkward silence stretches out when Cas finishes talking. It's obvious I've rattled him and I'm not sure how to comfort him.
The silence is bothering me, so I turn on the radio. Classic rock blasts out, filling the silence for the rest of the ride.

I pull into a parking space and cut the engine.
"Thank you for the ride Dean," Cas says, smiling, as he grabs his stuff.
"Hey professor, you're going to need a ride home. Want me to come back for you?"
"I don't want to cause you anymore trouble. You've done enough for me."
"It's not a problem. You got a pen?" Cas nods and searches through his bag for a second. When Cas finally hands me one, I grab his hand and gently turn it palm up. As I write down my number, I notice his mark. It's a short, thin green line. Lucky bastard, he's already meet his soulmate.
"Alright," I say giving Cas back his hand, "When you get done, give me a call. I'll be waiting, so don't even think of standing me up Professor."
"Ok." I catch a light blush spreading across Cas's face before he turns away, and I smirk. He's cute when he blushes.
I frown at my thoughts. What the hell am I thinking. I push the thought out of my mind as I turn Baby back on. I pull out of the parking spot and head back to work.

I say goodbye to Bobby and check my watch. It's 7 pm and I still haven't heard from Cas. Maybe that's a good thing. I'm not gay, but Cas... he's confusing.
A ringing breaks up my thoughts and I grab my cell. I notice the call is coming from an unknown number as I answer it.
"Hello?"
"Um hello, Dean? It's Castiel."
"Hey Professor. You ready to go home?"
"I am."
"Awesome, I'll be there soon."
( ̄︶ ̄)
I see Cas standing, waiting for me, in the same spot I dropped him off earlier. I pull into the same parking spot and in mere moments Cas is in my car with a small smile on his face. Cas rattles off an address, which I put into the navigation system on my phone.
"Long day huh," I say as I start to drive.
"Yes. I had papers to grade."
We sit in silence for awhile, but it is nor as uncomfortable as the silence from this morning. I notice Cas glance at me then look down at his hands.
"So how long have you lived here," Cas asks. I glance at him, curious about the sudden question.
"Awhile I guess. I've lived here ever since my dad died." I see Cas's face crease with worry.
"I'm sorry Dean. I didn't mean to bring up a bad memory."
"Don't worry about it Cas. Like I said, it's been a long time. I've come to terms with his death."
"If you don't mind me asking, how did he die?"
"Truth? He died saving me. We were outside. I had done something stupid and we were fighting about it. Some drunk was driving by and jumped the curb. My dad, he pushed me out of the way just before the idiot hit him." Why am I telling Cas this. If anyone else had asked I would have just said he got hit by a car, but something about Cas is comforting. It makes me want to tell him everything.
"Dean, it wan't your fault," Cas says, his eyes full of concern. I feel a sharp pain in my chest, but I ignore it and give Cas a reassuring smile.
"I know Cas. It's the drunk's fault and he's currently in prison. So it's all good. I'm fine." I pull into Cas's neighborhood, not at all surprised by the fact that he lives in suburbia. Cas points out his house and I pull into the driveway.
"Do you want to come inside for a bit, have a beer or something?" Cas asks as he gets out of Baby. I hesitate. Hanging out with Cas sounds nice, but Lisa is probably waiting for me at home.
"I have to get going. Rain Check?"
"Sure." Cas looks a bit disappointed and he turns to go inside.
"Hey Cas wait," I call out. Cas turns back to look at me. "What time do you want me to pick you up tomorrow?"
"My first class is at 9 so maybe 8:30."
"I'll see you then Professor."
(^_-)
I open the door to my house and see Lisa standing there.
"Where have you been?" Lisa asks, anger clouding her features.
"Out." Lisa walks to me and sniffs my clothes. I know she's looking for the smell of beer, smoke, or any clue that I've been out with someone else. When she doesn't find anything, she smiles up at me.
"Welcome home," she says as she wraps her arms around my neck and pulls me down into a kiss. I pull away from her and she gives me a look of confusion.
"Lisa, I don't think this going to work out. We should stop seeing each other." Lisa looks shocked and tears flood her eyes.
"I th-thought we were going to wait a bit longer," Lisa says, her voice breaking. The pain on her face kills me. I hate having to hurt her.
"Lis, we've waited long enough. There is someone better for you out there." I reach out to her and suddenly her eyes widen in horror. She grabs my hand and twists it so my palm is face up.
"Your mark," She hisses. I look at my palm and immediately notice my small mark has grown. It is slightly bigger, but the most noticeable change is a couple thin black line running through the blue circle. Lisa checks her own mark, but it is still a small brown square.
"You could have just told me you found your soulmate." Lisa grabs her coat and leaves, slamming the door behind her. I just stare at my mark in shock. Who had I meet today that could be my soulmate. The only new person I met today was Cas, but he can't be my soulmate. Cas is a guy.
