Tonight Charlotte's backyard looked amazing.

Standing next to Jane and Charlotte in front of an old concrete slab, it still bore oil scars from it's former life as the garage floor but tonight for Charlotte's Mum's 50th the slab had been transformed into a dance floor surrounded by tiki torches and lit from above by hundreds of fairy lights, strung in overhanging branches of an old gum tree.

The party was in full swing and Olivia was watched Mum and Dad dancing with their friends to seventies and eighties music. They were behaving as if they where sixteen and not really forty something.

"Oh my God I'm going to wet myself" Olivia wiped a tear from her eye and grabbed Jane's arm for support. "Stop Charlotte! My stomach is aching"

"Can't stop Ollie....I've got the music in me!" Charlotte was pretending to dance like Mr Wilson who was pushing seventy and was busting moves on the other side of the dance slab.

"I'm sure he's having a fit." Jane said "Is he having a fit?"

"Seriously Charlotte you have to stop. I'm not kidding, I'm going to wet my pants!" crossing one foot over the other Olivia doubled over holding onto her stomach.

"Ok! I need a rest anyway..." Charlotte puffed "Mr Wilson's moves are hard work."

By the time Olivia quelled her laughter and stood back to her full height Charlotte was dancing again.

"Oh give me a break....Pleeeaaase Charlotte."

"Oh I'm not dancing anymore Ollie. Look! Look!" Charlotte pointed to the back door and waved her arm madly above her head.

Charlie Bingley and his Father stood on the top step overlooking the party. Charlie's face lit into a brilliant smile when he saw Charlotte. He lifted his arm in response and made his way down the stairs moving through the crowd towards them.

"OMG look at that smile." Charlotte giggled "He's so cute, don't you think Jane?"

Jane pulled a stick of gloss from her pocket and applied, then fidgeted with her hair "You never said anything about him coming! How do I look?"

Olivia watched her sister and  smiled "You look gorgeous as usual." Yep she liked Charlie too. This was going to be an interesting evening.

A little thrill charged through Olivia, she imagined how it would feel to like someone and have him like her back. She had never thought about it until that moment, namely because there was never any boys at school she felt that way about.

Looking back through the crowded yard, Charlie had made progress, his eyes firmly set on Jane. Olivia noticed close behind him the boy and a girl following. The girl was a taller, not by much, still she was taller than Charlie and wore a dress Olivia had seen and loved in this months Polly magazine fashion pages. It looked amazing in the mag and was way beyond anything she could imagine ever affording! it looked even better on this girl than it had on the model.

How does that happen? Olivia marvelled and looked down at her own dress, a simple sky blue shift she bought in the main street surf boutique off the fifteen dollar rack.

Flicking a mane of glossy blonde spiral curls over her shoulder, the girl paraded across the yard, offering plastic smiles. Olivia was struck by the air of arrogance that oozed from the girl and watched as she slowed enough for the boy to catch her up. She rose up on her toes and whisper something to him, he smirked and nodded, looked around then screwed his face up momentarily.

Before Olivia could completely register his mood his face returned to it's original unemotional mask. Studying him closely Olivia conceded he could be very handsome, if he smiled. Tall with tussled black hair that fell across his forehead. His cheeks and jaw look like they where chiseled out of the smoothest olive toned marble. He was lean, muscular, athletic. His shoulders broad and strong like those of a surfer or swimmer. His shape was clearly visible and moved in ripples under the tight gun metal grey t-shirt he was wearing. Actually he is gorgeous Olivia admitted, unable to look away from him. Even the way he moved was mesmerizing.
