"I'm finished," Lauren said firmly. "This is over, I cannot do it any longer."
"My love, you have to understand," Dinah said, her voice raising louder as she looked at Lauren desperately. "I made a commitment, a promise, before my family and before God, and I cannot break so lightly, just because you ask me to."
Shaking her head furiously, Lauren stood up from her chair, slamming her hand down on the table.
"I can't watch you with someone else," she declared dramatically, pressing a fist to her forehead. "It's tearing me apart!"
Dinah just stared at her, her brow furrowing, lower lip digging into her teeth, and Lauren's eyes widened as she nodded at Dinah. Why wasn't she saying anything?
"Cut!" Dinah said, dropping her script onto the table and bursting into laughter. "Oh my god, baby, you're hopeless. You ain't getting this role, or any other role, unless you get it together."
"What? Why?" Lauren demanded, setting down her script as well and sinking back into her chair. "I thought that was going fine! I felt like I was really getting into the emotion of the scene."
Dinah raised her eyebrows.
"Stop looking at me like that!"
"It's tearing me apart!" Dinah mocked, laying the back of her hand dramatically over her forehead and leaning back in her chair. "Oh, Sir, I can't bear it, please, choose me instead..."
"Shut up, Dinah," Lauren snapped, crossing her arms. "It's called acting."
"Lauren, I went to a performing arts high school," Dinah said dryly. "I know what acting looks like, and that's not it."
"Don't be rude," Lauren muttered.
"Then don't be such a terrible actress," Dinah retorted. "I'd say we should try it again, but it's a waste of time, honestly."
"I have to try something else Dinah," Lauren sighed. "Journalism is crushing my soul at the moment, I need to do something artistic, find the meaning in life again."
"And that's why you're such a terrible actress," Dinah said, nodding. "You say that kinda dramatic shit on a daily basis, and you mean it, too."
Lauren slumped back into her chair, feeling utterly defeated.
"I'm a failure," Lauren mumbled. "A walking disaster, a ticking time bomb about to -"
"Oh, shut up and come over here," Dinah interrupted, laughing and pushing back her chair, patting her lap.
"A ticking time bomb, Dinah!" Lauren repeated, sitting up straighter. "I could explode at any second! Why do you want me in your lap?"
"You're just fucking with me now, and you know it," said Dinah with a grin, patting her thighs again. "Come kiss me, my lil drama queen."
Sighing, Lauren stood up and walked over to Dinah, pushing her hair to one side and climbing into Dinah's lap, straddling her thighs. Dinah's arms wrapped around her waist, a lazy smile on her face, and she leaned forward, connecting their lips as Lauren's hands slid into her mane of hair, tugging gently.
Their noses bumping together, Dinah sucked slowly on Lauren's lower lip, making Lauren hum and sigh. When they broke apart, Lauren was smiling faintly, her thumb gently tracing Dinah's cheekbone.
"You know what your problem is?"
Lauren shook her head distractedly, caught up in the warm, dark caramel color of Dinah's eyes.
"You're always overthinking," Dinah said, the corner of her mouth tugging up. "You should put your energy towards just being in the present, instead of worrying about finding the the meaning of everything."
"Very insightful," Lauren murmured, pressing their lips together again for a quick moment. "I'm definitely in the present right now, babe."
"Taking my advice already, huh?"
"Mmhm," Lauren hummed, nudging Dinah's nose with hers. "Now stop talking and kiss me some more."
