"I told you we should have taken the interstate, Dinah," Normani groaned, dropping her bag on the floor just inside the hotel room.

"Well excuse me for taking the GPS more seriously," Dinah snorted, sitting down on the double bed in the center of the room.

"We're not gonna get back till it's literally Christmas day at this rate," said Normani, rubbing her face with her hands. "My momma makes ham on Christmas Eve, and I'm actually old enough for them to let me drink wine this year. And I'm gonna miss it, because I decided to drive your annoying ass home, too."

"Yeah, well, I should've taken the train," Dinah said, shaking her head. "You're cute, but you're the most frustrating person I've ever met. I don't know why I thought I could take ten hours in the car with you."

"More like eighteen hours," Normani huffed, flopping down next to Dinah on the bed.

"You were the one driving," Dinah pointed out. "You could've just ignored me, if you knew better."

Normani sighed, and rolled into her side, fingers playing with a thread that was poking out of the comforter.

"Dinah," Normani said, her voice different, sitting up. "This is a single."

"What?"

"The room," she explained. "There's just the one bed, and that's it."

"It was cheaper," Dinah said with a shrug. "It's only one night, we'll just share the bed."

Normani stared at her.

Dinah stared right back.

"What makes you think I'm fine with sharing a bed with you?" Normani demanded.

"If you hadn't made me pay for the room, maybe you could've paid for a double," Dinah said matter-of-factly. "What, have you never shared a bed with someone you aren't fucking?"

Looking slightly nervous, Normani looked away, her hands still fidgeting with the loose thread on the covers.

"I haven't shared a bed with anyone," she said finally, her voice quieter now. "I don't stay over, I make people go home...y'know, after."

"What about with a boyfriend?" Dinah asked incredulously.

"Girlfriend," Normani corrected quickly. "And no, I haven't really reached that point with any of them. I'm really picky about how I sleep."

"Oh," Dinah said, smiling slightly.

"What?" Normani demanded.

"Nothing," Dinah said with a shrug. "I'm just not into boyfriends either."

"Wait, are you serious?" Normani asked, blinking at Dinah. "You're..."

"Gay, yeah," Dinah confirmed with a chuckle. "And so are you, apparently."

"Very much so, yeah," Normani murmured, still staring at Dinah. The angry tension in the room was still present, but it felt slightly less angry and more like something else.

"So, uh..." Dinah started. "Is sharing a bed gonna be weird now, or...?"

"Not weird," Normani said decidedly, still staring at Dinah. "It could be something else though, if you're into that."

"You sure you wanna hit on me?" Dinah said with a laugh, raising an eyebrow. "You can't make me go home after, y'know. We both gotta sleep here."

"I'll manage," Normani murmured. "I think you should change into something more comfortable."
