Sometimes Honesty Is The Worst Policy

We were waiting for Jacove Kingsley. It's been 5 minutes since he was called off to the principal's office.

I swear, if this guy doesn't get here in another 5 minutes I'm going to snap Patrick's neck. He's been smirking at me. It's like he's saying "You'll never prove it. Jacove would side with me"

I roll my eyes and tap my fingers on the table. Then there was the knock on the door that I was expecting. The door opened and Jacove popped a head inside. "Principal you called for- wait, Patrick? What are you doing here?" He asked, finally stepping into the room.

"Yes, Mr. Kingsley. I called for you." Mr. Crane said. His eyes traveled among his friends. "What are you guys doing here?" He asked.

Mr. Crane cleared his throat. We all looked at him. "Mr. Kingsley, you are called here because of Miss De Cordova and Mr. Banner's incident." He said. Jacove raises a brow "Incident?" Mr. Crane nodded. "Yes, Mr. Banner said that Miss De Cordova punched him this morning for no apparent reason. Your other friends here testified to that, but Miss De Cordova tried to testify that she didn't by asking your friends who testified, what hand she used."

Jacove snickered. "So what does that have to do with me?" He asked. "We just need to you to answer a question and we want you to be honest." Mr. Crane said. He looked at me for a short while; I bit my lip nervously and turned away. I cross my fingers. Please, please, please! Say the whole truth! "Sure." he says. "Okay, did Miss De Cordova punch Mr. Banner?"

There was a brief pause. He stared at me and me at him, my eyes pleading. He turned to the principal. "No, she didn't." I gaped at him.

No freaking way! He just told him the truth. The whole fucking truth! I must say, I'm completely surprised. I mean, I was sure that he'd stand up for Patrick.

"Really?" Mr. Crane asked. He nodded "Yeah, she just snapped at him for almost running over her." Mr. Crane was surprised and looked at Patrick. "Mr. Banner, lying is a major offense. And not only did you lie, you tried to frame an innocent girl." He said, clasping his hands together and placing them on the table.

I smirk at his last sentence. Me? Innocent? Oh please! But I've got to hand it to Marcus though, nice lying.

"B-but I-" Patrick stuttered. Mr. Crane shook his head. "I'm sorry but I'm going to suspend you." he gave him a slip. He turned to the other boys and said "You guys have detention for supporting Mr. Banner's plan. And Mr. Kingsley, thank you for telling us the truth."

Jacove nodded. After that, they all left. I turn to Marcus "Hey, thanks." He smiled "It was nothing."

I left and headed for the canteen. When I got there everyone was huddled around something. Not bothering to look what it is, I went to get food. I take a blueberry muffin, cookies, and milk.

Things you need to know about me; First, I love eating. It just takes my problems away for a short while. I don't get fat though. And for some unknown reason, I really have high metabolism. Second, I have a terrible sweet tooth. I just love sweets! Everything from chocolates to candies.

After paying, I took a seat on one of the vacant tables. After a very short while, my friends caught sight of me. "Julie!" Kelly called. I was watching them come towards me while savoring my sweet little muffin. "Hey Julie!" Kelly said excitedly. I raise a brow "What?" Ana and Cari sat in the chair next to me. "Do you know why the people there are huddled together?"

I shook my head. "Nope. And I don't intend to know." She pouted and slumped into her seat. I looked at Ana and Cari. "What's with her?" They sighed and Ana said "Patrick and Jacove are fighting about something over there. And she's been energetic since then." Kelly leaned over to me from across the table. "Hey Julie, do you know why they're quarreling?"

I shrugged. Finishing my food, I stand up. I put the cookies in my bag. I started to walk off, but before I can get far, Kelly stopped me. "Can you go see? Please?" She pleaded, giving out her puppy dog eyes. "Why?" I asked with no emotion. "I just want to know." she said.

I sighed. "Fine. But you owe me one." I said. She nodded and grinned. I squeezed into the huddled crowd to get to the front. When I got there Patrick and Jacove were arguing. "Dude! You're my friend!" Patrick shouted. "So?" Jacove asked coolly. "So you should've sided with me! I got suspension because of that!" Patrick spat. "Well, what did you want me to do? Lie? You know that it's against my rules to lie about things like that." he snapped.

I took the cookies out of my bag and started eating it while watching them fight. Who knew this would be enjoyable. "Still! You could've at least tried. But, no, you didn't. So now I wouldn't get to train for our basketball game this Saturday" He remarked. Jacove scowled at him. "Why are you blaming me? It's your fault! You shouldn't have done it in the first place! Just apologize to the girl!" I raise a brow. He does have a point. I might let him off the hook if he apologizes to me. Nah, who am I kidding? I wouldn't do that even in a million years. "I won't apologize to that damn girl." Patrick shouted.

This is getting boring. Taking my phone out, I dial Marcus' number. "Ring the bell." I said on the receiver and hung up, shoving it down my pocket.

The bell rang and all of the students came rushing to their classes. Except for Patrick, Jacove and me. They haven't noticed my existence yet so I let them first. But when I got tired of it I snapped. "Hey you two! Just stop it."

They both turned to me. "Well, if it isn't little Miss perfect." Patrick smirked, sarcastically. "You think I'm perfect? Aw I'm flattered." I faked awe. He scowled "What are you doing here? Came to save your knight in shining armor like he did earlier?"

I laughed. They looked at me with furrowed eyebrows. "I wouldn’t go as far as saying 'knight and shining armor' and no, I didn't come here to save a guy's ass that could handle his own self." I smirked as I crossed my arms over my chest. "Well, why're you here?" Jacove asked. I shrugged "Just came to watch you jerks fight but it became boring. So just stop it because if you haven't noticed no one else is here. Oh and you guys are already late for class."

Realization dawns them. Patrick picked up his things and scurried off angrily but Jacove on the other hand is still standing there. I tilt my head to the side "What?" Instead of answering he just stared at me. "Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Thank you, for telling the truth earlier." I gave him a tight smile. I spun my heel around to walk off when he grabbed my arm. "Wait." He breathed. I turned to face him, but when I did, our faces where only a few inches away.

"What's your name?" He asked. His eyes had a glint of amusement. "Why?" I asked as I furrowed my eyebrows. "Your name? Please?" He smiled. His smile was like an angel's. It was soft and playful at the same time. It made him more... attractive. "Ashlyn." I said. I didn't feel the need to tell him because he would probably forget about it anyway. I mean he's one of the popular guys in this school, he must be dizzy from all the names he need to remember.

He smiled again. 'His smile should be illegal' I thought. "Nice meeting you Ashlyn. See you later" He said before walking off.
