Chapter Three:
I started walking home, away from the warehouse, but Alex grabbed my shoulder and pulled me back. He looked me in the eyes. He probably saw tears rolling down them. “You can’t go, Rose, we’re all in this together and we need to stop and kill Jaden, before he kills anymore of your friends or family. That includes me.” He looked as if he was about to cry.
“I know, I can’t take another death,” I looked into his dark gray eyes and smiled. The eyes that always watched me pretend to kill Clypons when we were kids, the eyes that followed me when I would run around, pretending to fly. I loved those eyes. I loved Alex. I just would never admit it to myself.
He took my hand into his and I could hear little sniffs here and there. We walked back to the FAOG headquarters. That place was basically my home. It was three stories high and it was all blue steel. Basically every building was in the galaxy of Hydren. It had over twenty computers and tracking devices and there was always work going on inside.
We walked in silently, still traumatized by the event that had just occurred. It was going to be a long night. I was the leader of FAOG. Everyone had appointed me the job. The truth was, I had no idea what to do. I always took Galer’s orders, I never made my own. I had only been a bounty hunter for a year and I never gave other people orders. I still had to try, to fight my way up to the top of the food chain. No longer were men the prime species.
I stood on top of the counter where all the computers were and looked around. Surrounded by men. They all looked at me, except this time, they didn’t look at me like I was a joke. “Alright, men, listen up,” I said slamming my fist into my palm. “We are going to take down Jaden, and save Hydren.”
They all cheered, for me. Instead of snickering behind my back, they were rooting me on. Boosting my self-esteem. I felt better about myself already! I was going to take Jaden down for all of the terrible things he had done for me and my family. He didn’t scare me, well he did a little, but that doesn’t mean I can’t beat him at his own game.
We had to learn more about Jaden, more about his recent past. “Huler,” I pointed to one of my team mates, “check the computer for any information on Jaden. I want to know more.” He nodded his head to me and sat down on the blue roll chairs. His fingers slammed across the key board as he pulled up a site.
“It says here that just two weeks ago, Jaden was released from jail.” He kept scrolling down to read more, “He attempted murder five months ago and was released. That’s all it tells me.” He closed out of the site and stood up.
“He attempted murder, so he failed. How would he have gotten out just after five months?” I questioned aloud. “He should’ve been in jail for two years the least.”
All the men looked at me, impressed by my knowledge. “Well, how would he have gotten out?” Alex asked me.
I looked at them all without emotion, just like Galer would’ve done. “Someone bailed him out, he has an accomplice.”
The guys all opened their mouth. We weren’t just looking for one man, there were two and we had to get them both. “Alright guys, lets head out and go back to the warehouse, maybe Jaden left anything.” I wasn’t looking for clues; I was looking for a piece of Galer, something that would let me remember him for eternity. We still needed clues, but I had fifteen men able to do that.
