Chapter Two:
I walked towards the electric box as my hands reached out. The cold metal hit my suit and sent a shiver down the back of my spine. I flipped the large switch to reignite the power as lights flew around me. Everything was brightly lit. I walked back down through the elevator and got back into the main room. Galer stood there with a half-smile on his face. He was impressed which as well made me feel better about myself.
Once everyone returned from their mission, it was time to investigate the warehouse to see where the Dradids were. I was told plainly to investigate sector one. The sector I had just left. I started towards the door when the voice of Alex stopped me, “Hey, Rose, I’m going to go with you.”
Inside, I was most likely screaming of joy, but on the outside I showed no emotions. I couldn’t let my emotions get the better of me, especially when I’m trying to impress my former society.
I kept walking until Alex caught up with me. I looked at him straight in the eye and he just smiled. “So how has the federation been without me?” I finally asked, breaking the silence.
“Well, you know, Galer has been acting a lot different. He has been so much stricter ever since you left, I think he misses you Rose.”
No doubt he missed me. “Oh, anyone else?”
“Well, me, of course. You were like my sister and losing a sister would be terrible.”
My eyes looked down at the ground, remember my parents. Everything, somehow related back to my parents. He looked at me and my sad expression and started to speak, “Rose, I didn’t mean it like that. I just meant-”
I cut him off, “I know what you meant,” I stopped him and he stood there with sad eyes, he always remembered my parents. He and Galer were the only ones who knew! I started walking forward, leaving Alex standing there speechless.
He caught up to me as we started walking into sector one. I looked at him and his beautiful face. My eyes wandered to the ground when I noticed that the arm of his suit was missing to reveal his muscles. Back in sector one, there was grass and large Venus fly traps around. That was not supposed to be there. We kept walking until we reached the top of the room. Above were hundreds of Dradids. But these were nearly half of them. Alex and I got our guns ready. The Dradids stood six feet tall with large pointy teeth the size of a toothbrush. They were pink with tentacles that could kill you instantly, and they flew. Suddenly a black shadow appeared behind the pink Dradids that covered the whole east side of the sector.
A man in a black suit with spiky black hair and gray eyes appeared. He had a wicked smile across his face. I had seen this man before, it’s just, I didn’t remember his name. “Jaden,” Alex said. As soon as I heard his name, I remembered him. The man who started war in the Hydren Galaxy. The man who killed many innocent humans. The man who killed my parents during the war. I remembered him clear as day.
“Why hello, Alex, Rose. Boy, you guys grew so much.” Jaden said wickedly.
“What do you want?” I yelled. I never got over what he did, nor was I ever.
“Rose, oh Rosy,” my nickname, “still so clueless and young.” He was so calm, as if, nothing was going on. “I’M GOING TO RULE THE WORLD,” A little cliché, but still scary. “These Dradids could kill out the human race in the snap of the finger. I’m just waiting for the right moment.”
“What right moment?” I asked, almost afraid of what the answer might be.
“Get in here,” he yelled across the Dradids. When he did that three Dradids flew in carrying a man in a suit, dead. Galer. They killed Galer. Bad things happened in my life, I questioned every day and they never stopped. Today just beat all those bad things, except for my parents.
“You killed Galer?” I asked almost in tears. The man I loved, my only ‘father’. I had no parents, no one to call a family. I had nothing. I felt empty inside and I clutched my stomach. I fell to the ground with a big bang from my knees. Alex went down with me, just to see if I was okay.
I sobbed for about seven minutes. When I was finally done I looked up to see Jaden standing there, happy. Happy to see me in pain, happy to see me lose my only loved one I had left. I was dead.
“That’s enough crying for one evening,” Jaden snapped. “Now’s the time.”
“The time for what?” I asked with a few sniffs in there.
“I will rule this world.”
Just as he said that, he snapped his finger. Thousands of Dradids flew toward us. Alex and I got up and started running out of the building.
Once we were outside we stood there seeing chaos. Lights flickered as we saw the rest of the society trample out, some carrying others. Finally, the warehouse started shaking until the entire foundation was brought down. It was nothing but rubble.
The Dradids flew away and Jaden was gone. A couple of the gang members looked around confused until one of them spoke up, “Where’s Galer?”
“Dead,” I said, heartbroken.
I heard simultaneous what’s and how’s but I couldn’t talk any longer. I looked at the garbage left by the Dradids. The warehouse was gone. I had no other thing to remind me of my job, my parents, or Galer. I had nothing. I was nothing.
