CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Paige pulled open the door of her cabinet cautiously, wincing when it made a squeaking sound. She turned her head to the left and peeked inside her room to see if the girl sleeping on her bed was awoken by the sound. Certain that Emily was still asleep, Paige returned her gaze in front of her, the sliver of yellow light coming from the slightly opened bathroom door behind her the only source of light she had. She grabbed a change of clothes and placed them in her duffel bag before closing the cabinet door, heading back inside her bedroom when she was done and looking around in the dark, trying to see if she was forgetting anything else. When Paige was sure that she had everything she needed, she walked over to Emily's side of the bed and debated whether or not to wake up the girl or just leave a note.

The faint moonlight streaming in from her bedroom window made Paige smile as she gazed at Emily's perfect features. She watched the rise and fall of the girl's chest and her mind recalled what happened last night, making her smile turn to one of awe. Paige lowered her bag on the floor next to her and knelt on the side of her bed, tenderly brushing a few strands of hair away from Emily's face before leaning forward to kiss the girl's forehead softly. She held her breath when Emily stirred from her sleep, waiting for the girl to open her eyes and look at her.

"Hey." Emily uttered, her voice a little raspy. She shifted from her position and rubbed an eye sleepily, trying to get her bearings. "What time is it?" She asked when she noticed the darkness in the room.

"Almost five." Paige answered before grazing Emily's forehead and leaning forward to kiss the girl on the same spot.

Emily creased her brows. "Are you going out for a run or did you just come back from one?" She asked when she noticed that Paige was wearing a tracksuit once her eyes got accustomed to the dark.

"Neither. Although I do have to leave." Paige added, her hand moving to rest on Emily's waist. "I forgot to tell you last night that I have a meet all day today in New York so I have to meet my teammates outside Penn Park in thirty minutes." She continued apologetically. "Sorry if I woke you up. I just wanted to say goodbye rather than leave a note. Go back to sleep."

Emily shook her head and slowly got up, moving a little to make room for Paige to sit next to her. "I'm going back to campus with you." She decided, running a hand through her hair to comb it. "I have a workshop for MARC at eight and my things are back in my room."

"I'll drive you back to Harrison." Paige offered. "Don't say no." She added when she saw Emily open her mouth to protest. "I don't mind swinging by your college house. I'll be late for a couple of minutes, five at most but it's not a big deal. I just want to make sure that you get back to your room safe."

"I wasn't going to say no. I was going to say thank you." Emily said, smiling. "What time are you getting back from New York? I can leave the workshop early, meet you outside Penn Park?"

"How about I pick you up from the MUSE building instead once I get back?" Paige suggested. "I don't want you to stand in the cold just to wait for me. If your workshop ends before I get back, I'll meet you in Harrison instead. I promise not to be super late in picking you up this time." She added when she saw Emily hesitate. "I'll call you. Just don't forget to charge your phone before you go to the workshop."
