Alice sat on the edge of her bed staring out the window, listening carefully. It was dawn. Anytime now..

creak..

Alice smirked as she heard a panicked gasp followed a nervous steps.

Creeaaak....

Smirking again, Alice leapt from her position to the door flinging it open. Instead of slamming loudly, it gave a short creaking sound. The figure in the hallway jumped quite some distance back slamming into a wall. Alice hovered before him looking smug. The boy stood there against the wall with his eyes squeezed shut and his arms pressed flat against the wall like he was trying to be part of it. After a few seconds the boys opened one eye carefully. A confused, relieved expression spread over his features. If you studied it long enough you would see the guilt. "Hey sis! I was ..er.. going to the bathroom. Why you up so early?" It was a pitiful attempt to lie. Way too easy to see through. Alice shook her head. "Alex. You got up at dawn, wearing hunting gear, to go to the bathroom?!" Alex seemed to realize that his ability to lie was too sucky to rely on so changed tactics. "Oh please! I'll do anything! Just don't tell mom and dad! I'll just be gone for a liiiittle while," he pleaded throwing himself at his sister's feet. Alice rolled her eyes. "Where were you going?" She asked. Guilt was know plain on Alex's face. He looked away from his sister's face. "Well, you know how the they're gonna start the hunter trials soon....?" Alex risked a glance at his sister and stopped immediately. Her eyes were wide with shock and she seemed to be lost for words. Alex gulped. "Err..you know what? I'll just go back to bed," he mumbled quickly. Alice recovered quickly. "You want to join the hunters?!" She shouted. Alex jumped a foot into the air. "Shhh! You're gonna wake mom and dad?!" he scream-whispered. Alice scowled. "Alex! You can't! The forest is full of dangerous things! You can't!" Alex's expression was becoming more panicked. "Ok, ok! I'll go back to bed and let's discuss this in the morning," he begged. Alice opened her mouth to protest. She still had a lot more to say. She stopped as she heard their father's snoring falter and pick up again. It would cause a ruckus if father woke up now. "Morning." she agreed grudgingly. Alex nodded eagerly and tip toed away with surprising speed. Alice let out a frustrated sigh as she shuffled back to her room and closes the door letting loose another creaking noise. She collapsed onto her bed suddenly feeling tired. Alex probably wouldn't try sneaking out again. As she slowly fell asleep, several things were clear in her mind.

She was not letting her brother join the hunters.

The forest was dangerous.

He was not to go near it.
