"Then, how do you talk so modernly?"
Alex glared at him for a second , as best he could with the stitches in his face, then he just looked at him questioningly,"That's what you're worried about?"
He shifted around uncomfortably,"I've kind of just accepted anything supernatural into my life after..."
"After what?"
"Its better if I just show you, but you shouldn't really be walking on those legs."
"I can walk just fine!"
"Your leg is literally broken."
"You want to bet." Alex protested trying to sit up.
"You know what, after your leg heals and Molly says you can walk around again I'll show you the chickens." He said pushing him back down.
"You believe in the supernatural because of chickens?"
"I have found that some cockalorum are quite supernatural."
He studied Alex's face for a bit,"My name's Charlie by the way, what's yours?"
"Alex." He said trying to offer his hand for Charlie to shake.
"So Alex, the largest wounds were in your arm. I wouldn't move it for a while." He cautioned pushing his arm back down. " Molly said she was looking for a phone so she could call a real doctor and or veterinarian.
"Veterinarian!?"
"Yeah you know cause you've got..." He motioned to his horse body.
There was suddenly a dry spell of talking.
"So... about the mermaids..." Charlie started, pulling out his frayed notebook, realizing now was a perfect opportunity to add to his research.
"I've I've never seen any mermaids, this," Alex said motioning the best he could to his lower body," is a more recent.
Alex looking over the top of the notebook realized Charlie wrote that down in his small, loopy handwriting. Then after writing that down he paused realizing something.
Charlie furrowed his eyebrows then looked Alex meaningfully in the eyes,"How long were you in that forest?"
Alex thought for a second,"Now I know it was more than eighty years but at the time it only felt like a couple of months or possibly a year or two."
Charlie for once didn't want to write something down but did so anyway. Not letting Alex know how much this disturbed him Charlie swallowed then croaked out,"Weird."
His head blank and spinning for once Charlie stood up, took a deep breath, and started walking towards the door," You are not going to like these chickens."

FantasyAlex stumbled out of the forest to find that he still has a horse body and legs. And wasn't it 1920 when he last checked? (I've given up on writing this. I might finish it later, but for the time being this is it.)
