I knew she was trying to relate to what I was going through.
"You're always welcome here" she said, smiling.
"Thanks." I followed Ethan to the pantry where he kept his junk food. Pulling out a bag of Fritos, he said,
"Lets go in my room." Uh oh. Whenever Ethan chooses Fritos, he's about to tell me something deep or meaningful. I jumped onto his bed and pulled my knees up to my chest.
"OK, so there's this girl I like..." he said.
"Ohhh do tell" I prodded.
"Her name is Monique Lacumm" I almost choked on my mouthful of Fritos.
"Monique!? You mean like the Queen Bee of the populars?"
"Yeah. She's cool." Astonished, I said,
"Do you know how mean and bratty she is?"
"Well, Yeah, but I think she only does that to fit in." Maybe Ethan was right.
We stayed in his room and talked for awhile. At about 7:00 pm, Julie came in and said I should probably be getting home so my 'parents' wont worry. Like Chloe and Dad would worry about me. Ethan walked me home. The evening air gave me gooseflesh. When we got to my house, I opened the front door, called
"Bye!" To Ethan, and headed straight to my room. Chloe stepped in front of me.
"Your father and I are going out for dinner. You will stay here, and clean your room or something"
"OK" I tried to push past her. She slapped me right across the face. And not just a little hit but a hard slap. Stunned, I sat down on the carpet. Pain was dancing across my cheek. I put all the hate I could muster into my eyes and glared daggers at her. She'd never hit me before.
"I'm tired of your attitude, and you being so damn disrespectful!" She stormed past me, down the hall towards Dad.
"I hate you!" I screamed after her, tears spilling from my eyes. Then I jumped up, stalked into my room, and slammed the door. Collapsing on my bed, I cried myself to sleep.
My alarm blared the song, Wake Me Up, by Avicii from it's tiny speakers. Groaning, I hit the snooze button. I looked at the calendar on my wall. Today was Monday, November 22nd. I dressed myself in a Pink Floyd t-shirt and khaki pants.
