|Chapter Four|

All was quiet through the streets of Mystic Falls, the lights outside lit peacefully and the clouds parting to show the bright moon.

Damon was sitting on Elena's bed, watching her as she slept. His phone buzzed, annoyingly vibrating on the bedside cabinet. Damon reached for his phone. "Who is this?" He yawned.

"Damon. It's Caroline. Stefan was just leaving my street when he realised Elena might be in more trouble than we thought. We think she may have Elijah's blood in her system. Please keep her safe and make sure she doesn't die within 24 hours. We'll be there soon." Caroline sighed. Caroline groaned as she quickly got herself dressed and Stefan waited for her outside of her bedroom window.

"I'm sorry Caroline." He said. "I know you haven't been getting any good sleep lately. When this is all over, I'll make sure we don't disturb you for a good while."

Damon hung up and stared at Elena. He stroked her hair and made his way downstairs to find Bonnie. "We have some bad news." He sighed, as he stepped off the last stair and let go of the banister. Damon explained the situation to Bonnie and she decided she needed to go back to her home to find a spell book that could help. Damon reluctantly gave her the keys to his car as Bonnie wouldn't be able to get home from here at this time of night safety. The door closed quietly, and Damon turned as he heard a noise from behind him.

"What's wrong Damon?" Elena asked with a playful tone, she stood in the doorway of the kitchen and twirled her hair in her fingers. She was no longer in pyjamas and wore tight black jeans and a cropped purple top.

"Elena?" Damon said, furrowing his brows. Something about her wasn't right. Her hair was now slightly curled, she was wearing a lot of makeup and she was almost convincingly teasing him, which was unlike her.

"Come to the kitchen." She said, looking at him from head to toe. This voice was familiar to him. Damon was cautious and slow with his steps. He turned the corner to the kitchen, following Elena and then it hit him. This was not Elena. This was Katherine Pierce. But it couldn't be? Katherine was gone from this world. She was dead, wasn't she?

Damon swallowed hard. Katherine was holding Elena up by her hair in a tight, painful grip. Damon grew protective, and fangs pierced through his gums. He ran towards the pair as she held Elena closer to her. He dropped dead in his tracks. Something within him felt torn. He had searched for Katherine for years, his long lost soul mate, but he had now grown attached to Elena. Her soft spirit, and engaging personality. Elena may have looked identical to Katherine, but they were not the same person.

"No further Damon or I kill her!" Katherine grinned. She was too confident for his liking. The tension was building up and Damon knew that soon the door would open and Stefan and Caroline would increase the chance of Katherine killing Elena.

"Damon." Elena cried weakly. Katherine looked at Damon with a grin on her face. Stefan and Damon were hers, she claimed them a long time ago and she wasn't in the mood for sharing. Damon held his hand out gently and took a small step and Katherine instantly snapped Elena's neck violently.

"Why did you do that!" Damon yelled, pointing to Elena with both hands, and then putting his hands on his head. Damon wasn't at all worried since Caroline's words played in his mind. Elena was not really dead, and in a way he didn't mind Elena being a vampire.

"I don't like people who take what's mine Damon. You know that. And I did warn you not to come any further." Katherine winked, pacing throughout the living room, peering at Elena's photos. "Hm. She looks exactly like me."

"I've been looking for you for so long." Damon questioned, looking confused.

"You know, she looks better dead... But then again, I'm technically dead and I look amazing." Katherine smirked. She bit her lip as she walked towards Damon. Now that she was back, she wanted both of the Salvatore brothers.
