Chapter 2

Keely's POV

As I walk up to the Principal's office I hear a familiar voice coming from behind the door. It's my step-brother Shawn. I open the door, step inside the office and take a seat next to Shawn.  

Almost as soon as I sit down the Principal starts talking. 

"Keely, I am sure you are wondering why you have been called here and what your brother is doing here but I think that it's best that Shawn explains this all to you." The Principal leaves the room to go back to his work. As soon as he is gone, I look at Shawn. I stand before I start talking, so I seem taller and so I give myself more power.

"What are you doing here?" I ask.

Shawn's POV   

I stand and hold out my hand towards Keely. "What are you doing here?" she asks again. I sigh and sit back down. Keely does the same thing. I grab her hand and look into her eyes.

"I just got a call from the hospital. You mum and dad were involved in on of the largest car crashes in the last 10 years. You step-mum is in a coma."

She looks heartbroken. I feel so bad for telling her that. But I will feel even worse when I have to tell her about what happened to her dad.

"What about my dad?" she asks, as if she can read my mind. I squeeze her hands, sighing heavily before I start.

"I am so sorry Keely, but your father, he... he died instantly on the scene." I say, closing my eyes, so as to let no tears escape.

"WHAT! My dad is... is... dead?" she asks.

"Yes I am so sorry Keely." I say.

I look over at her just as the tears start to fall.

I am just about to say something to try and calm her but before I can, she leans over and wraps her arms around me.

"Thank you for coming here to tell me and not letting me find out from the Principal or a random person. I really appreciate it. I love you Shawn."

As soon as I hear the words leave her mouth, I take my arms away from around her and look her straight in the eye.

She looks at me, trying to dry her eyes.

"What did you say?" I ask, looking at her.

"I said I love you. And it's true. I may not say it a lot, but I do. " she says, wrapping her arms around me again and breaking down all over again.

I am speechless. I just sit there with my arms by my sides, hers wrapped around me. I push her up and hold her hands in mine. "Thanks Keely." I say.

"You're welcome Shawn. I love you so much! I feel so close to you! Even though we don't really talk that often!" she says hugging me again!

Wow she likes hugs, I say in my head.

"You are the best brother I could ask for!" she says into my shoulder.

"What did you say?" I asked, utterly surprised.

"I said YOU ARE THE BEST BROTHER I COULD ASK FOR!" she say again, louder this time.

"WHAT!?" A boy Keely's age walks into the office.

"Um... Hi, I'm Shawn." I say, getting up and walking over to shake the boys hand.

He grabs it, shaking it back. "I know who you are." he says.

Zach's POV

I walk over and stand in front Keely. "Keely, did you just say that Shawn Mendes was your step-brother?" I ask, a little bit angry.

"Zach, just sit down and let me explain." she says, grabbing my hand and pulling me down onto the chair next to her.

I sit and turn to face her, crossing my arms.

"Zach, yes I did just say Shawn Mendes was my brother. But..." she says before I cut her off.

"Why haven't you told me this before?" I ask.

"I... well..." she starts, before Shawn cuts in.

"Keely didn't tell you because we didn't want the fact that I was her step-brother to go public. No-one knew except our parents and my sister Aaliyah. Or should I say our sister Aaliyah." He says this with so much dignity.

"K, is... is this true?" I say, looking back to Keely.

"Yes. We just wanted to make sure Shawn's career was protected." she says.

I think about what I have just heard. I need to make some decisions.

I love Keely but she kept this from me. Sure it was to protect Shawn and his career but still, she should have trusted me.

"Keely..." I start, looking at her.

She looks up and me. I take her hands in mine.

"You kept one of the biggest possible secrets from me. I know it was to protect Shawn but still. I feel like you should have been able trust me. I am so sorry to do this..." I says, before pausing and sighing.

"No Zach, you don't have to do this." she says, leaning over and giving me a kiss on his cheek. "I love you."

"I know and I love you too. But I can't stay with you if there is a possibility that you could keep something like this from me again." I say.

"No Zach, please." she says.

"My step-mum and dad were just involved in a car crash; my mum is in a coma and my dad died on the scene instantly on the scene. This is terrible. WORST DAY EVER!" she says, running over to Shawn and hugging him super tight.

"Keely. Come here, give me a hug." I say, holding out my arms.

"Zach, we are almost broken-up. You find out what happens and suddenly change your mind?" she says, with so much force I almost fall off my chair in alarm.

"I am so sorry. I just wanted to give you support." I say.

She looks angry for a moment before pulling me in for a hug.

"But this doesn't change my feelings. I know it's hard what you're going through right now and I am so sorry to have to do this. But it just has to happen. I love you and always will." I say, leaning over and giving her a kiss on the cheek. "I will never forget you and am always here if you need a friend to talk to."

I give her one last kiss on the cheek before turning, nodding to Shawn and leaving the office.

Linda's POV

They have been in there a long time. Zach left to go find out what happened and still isn't back.

I guess I'll just go wait by Keely's locker. Lunch only has 3 minutes left. She'll be out soon as... I think this to myself until I see Keely walking across the quad towards the car park.

"Keely! KEELY!" I yell, as I chase after her. I catch up to her and she turns around and she has tears streaming down her face.

"What happened?" I ask, hugging her.

"I'll tell you later. I have to go to the hospital." she says, more tears coming out.

"THE HOSPITAL!!??!! But why!?" I ask.

"I'll tell you later!" she says running as fast as she can towards the car park.

(A/N ... Sorry the chapter is so long!!!!  We wanted to dedicate the 2nd chapter to finding out about Shawn and the conflict with Zach. It took a little more writing then excepted but it's finished and we hope you liked it!!!)
