Lost In Time

Say it ain't so

As you walked into the hospital you were suddenly scared. You were afraid of the condition you'd find Steve in. The ride in the elevator seemed to take forever.
"I'm sure he's ok" said Clint as if he read your mind.
"I hope so" you reply.

When you walk into the room you find Steve awake, smiling. A man was sitting next to him laughing.

"I'm glad you're ok, Cap." you say rushing to his side. You hugged him softly, though you wanted to hug him tight.
"A little banged up, but I'll survive." Said Steve as you break the embrace.
"Hi, I don't believe we've meet, my name is Y/F/N" you said to the man sitting at Steve's side.
"I'm Sam, Sam Wilson." He said as he stood up and extended his hand to shake yours.
"Clint" said Clint giving a nod. Sam nods back.
"Thanks for having his back" Clint said to Sam.
"I'll always have his back" said Sam. 
Sam was a handsome tall man you notice. He had one of those smile that made you smile.
"We saw what happened on the news, we came as quick as we could" you say to Steve
"A little late, but we're here" said Clint.
Clint told Steve and Sam what happened to you guys.
"I honestly believe if Tony and James hadn't come we'd be dead right now, but enough about that. I'm just glad you're ok. Watching those helicarriers going down on the news sent a chill down my spine" You said.
"Imagine watching it coming straight towards you in real life" said Sam.
"I'm dying for a coffee, Do you guys want anything?" You ask.
"No" replied Clint and Steve at the same time.
"I'll go with you" said Sam.
Sam lead the way to the elevator.
"I've never seen you around the base" you said as you both enter the elevator.
"I'm not a SHIELD agent. Just a soldier" He said.
"So, How did you come to meet Steve." You asked.
He laughed. "We'll just say we met on a run"
You didn't get what was so funny but you smiled to be polite.
"How'd you guys meet?" He asked.
"We met a long time ago. I was at Coney island with a few of my girlfriends. Bucky walked right up to us. He introduced himself and Steve. Steve was shy but Bucky was bold.  He wasted no time and asked me if he could take me out sometime. I said yes, of course." you smile, the memory coming back clear as day.
Sam had a look on his face. It was a mix of confusion and something else. You couldn't put your finger on it. You understood the confusion, Bucky has been dead for a little over 70 years.
"I was held by Hydra in a cryogenic chamber for a while" you quickly say to Sam. Not wanting to get into too much detail.
"For a long long while I'm guessing" Said Sam with a hint of amusement in his voice. You nod in agreement.
"So you're pretty much a female Steve Rogers." He said. The both of you laughed.

It wasn't long before you were heading back to Steve's room. As you walked in you heard Clint say to Steve, "You have to tell Y/N, she deserves to know"...

"know what?" You interrupted.
Everyone was silent.
"Whats going on?" You say sounding more worried than you wanted too.
"I'm gonna go find Nat" said Clint. As he walked out he put his hand on your shoulder and gave you a sympathetic look. Sam followed him out.
"Steve?" You said softly. You sit next to him on the bed
"I don't even know how to even begin" he said.
"Just tell me" you say, a hint of frustration in your voice.

He told you all of it, starting with the mission, the ship, and Fury's death. He went on with this long story. The story was pretty exciting, but you didn't understand why Clint said you deserved to know.
That was until he got to a part in the story about the car chase and a fight with a man with a metal arm.
"He didn't even know who I was" said Steve. You could hear the grief in his voice. You wiped the tears you hadn't realized fell from your eyes.
"We'll find him Y/N, I promise." Steve pulled you into a hug. You held on tight. It was like the floor was ripped from right under you; and Steve was the only one keeping you from falling...
