Summary: 17 Year old Katherine Beckett is taken in the middle of the night when Lord Bracken's men come for her. Her parents have no choice but to watch their daughter be taken because they were in debt to Bracken. When Kate is brought to the castle where Bracken lives with the King's family she meets a young boy her age who helps her.

She's sleeping peacefully, the first she's slept in days when she awakes with a scream. There are soldiers running through the house yelling at her parents and she hears them climbing the stairs.

 Why are they here!? Kate screams in her head. 

She moves to escape but her door swings open and the guards scowl at her. "Come with us." The older one growls, his sword in his right hand ready to draw at her.

 Kate gulps and slowly nods, "Yes Sir." She mumbles, slipping her flats on and grabbing her shaw. 

The older soldier is behind her and the second is in front, leading them down the wooden steps of their home. Her parents are huddled together, both with tears streaming down their face.

 She gives them a puzzled look because they look like they're regretting something more than scared for their life. "Momma? Papa?" She inquires, because she has no clue why the King's soldiers are invading their house at such an early time. 

And why are her parents giving her this regretful look? "Momma?" She tries again. 

Johanna Beckett slowly stands up, wary of the soldiers who have their swords pointed at her. "My darling me and Your father were in some debt a while ago and we borrowed money from a very powerful man." Johanna begins, she takes Kate by the hand and interlocks her in her daughter's palm. 

"Who Momma?" Johanna swallows, her head in dropped and her tears are flowing again. 

"His name is Lord Bracken." Kate gasps, "The King's right hand?!"

 Johanna nods, she brings her head up to look at her daughter. If this was the last time she was going to see her only child she needed to make the most of it. 

"Yes baby, and at the time we were just so broke and you were a baby so we needed money, Lord Bracken made us a deal that if he ever wanted something from us in the future we would freely give it to him without trouble." She sobs, her hand now resting on her daughter's cheek. 

Kate gulps, what was her mother trying to say?

 Did they have to lose their house? Was the man taking their shop? 

"Momma tell me." She pleads, because she hates when her mother cries. Johanna takes a deep, stuttering breath. 

"He wants you." Kate stumbles back and braces herself on the wall, "W..What?" She stutters. 

"My darling I'm so sorry, this evil man wants you and there's nothing I can do." She breaks down, crying even harder. Her father who had been quiet the whole time sits up, he walks over to his wife to comfort her.
