Jooheon felt a little more cheerful, knowing that he would get to see his dongsaeng's adorable smile and laugh that eased his brain of guilt ; the thing he was running away from most. His pace picked up a little once he came into the cute little part of town that Changkyun lived in. He knew it was expensive, but it definitely seemed worth it to have such nice neighbors and a clean community, something he didn't have in his own.
A few familiar faces Jooheon had gotten to know overtime greeted him, and he greeted back with the best smile he could manage. It didn't take long till he reached Changkyun's building. It held around 20 apartments and the outside walls were covered in pastel patterns that were very appealing to the eye.
As he climbed up the white metal steps, he saw the door of Changkyun's apartment open up a little, and the face of the owner peaked out, just enough for Jooheon to see. A smile formed on his face, and he walked in the direction of the now open door.
He closed it behind him and walked over to where Changkyun was on his couch. The younger looked like a burrito with all those blankets wrapped around himself and his face was blue from the near blinding light of the tv.
Changkyun looked up at Jooheon, who was now sitting on the edge of the couch staring at the tv screen. He tried to hold back his giggles of how cute his hyung was sometimes, but remembering that Jooheon wasn't at his apartment to be stared at but to be helped, he grabbed the remote and turned off the tv. Jooheon whined but not for long when he saw the smile that he hadn't seen in a few days. His heart melted within himself.
"Hyung," Changkyun waved his hand in front of Jooheon's face, hoping he would gain his attention. It did, and it left Jooheon with pink sprinkled across his cheeks, Changkyun laughed again, and the pink became more present. He noticed Jooheon was blushing but decided not to mention it considering he himself was red from his fever. Now that he remembered his own face was heated he felt like hell. "Heonie hyung, could you get me a cold towel?" He asked, throwing the thick blankets he covered himself in to the floor.
"Yeah, sure." Jooheon regained his composure enough to get up and so he walked down the hall to Changkyun's closet where he kept a few towels, blankets, and his clothes, most of which were oversized but it's not like he cared. Jooheon took one of the small towels and slid the closet door shut. As he was about to walk out of the room, he noticed a recent photo (probably from the past few months) sitting on Changkyun's desk.
It was of the two boys and their friends : Hyunwoo, Minhyuk, Hyungwon, and Hoseok. They were all at an amusement park in line for a new rollercoaster and looked really excited about it. Oh how the nostalgia killed Jooheon. They looked so happy together. He picked up the photo, and his smile dropped. One of their friends had gotten in a car accident a few weeks after the photo had been taken. It was hard for everyone, but probably the hardest for Hyungwon. He never went to work at the cafe after that, and his contact was limited to one person. This one person was a man by the name of Kihyun.
Kihyun was a sweet and understanding person, and a great friend. Hyungwon met him in the hospital whilst he kept going there for a week after Hoseok's death even though it made him feel worse. Kihyun, on the other hand, saw the tall boy coming in and out of the hospital every day, since he had a part time job there, working in physical therapy. He approached him with a
"Hey, what's wrong? I've noticed you've been coming here everyday this week." "Oh, and by the way, I'm Yoo Kihyun. I work in physical therapy." He flashed him a warm smile. From there on Hyungwon kept visiting the hospital to talk to Kihyun and take him home after his shift was over. Occasionally they would stop at Imbue Park and eat some food from one of the many food trucks surrounding it. They never saw each other as more than friends, and definitely did not want to take that step forward considering that Hyungwon still wasn't over Hoseok.
"Hyung! Hurry up!" Changkyun yelled from the living room. Jooheon shook off his thoughts and set the photo back down on the wood desk in front of him. He headed to the bathroom and ran the towel under some cold water before returning to the living room.
From there he brought the cold, damp cloth to Changkyun's forehead and watched as the younger's temperature eased.
Cold sprung its way through Changkyun's body, starting at his brain, melting outwards like a glacier to the rest of his nerves. His muscles relaxed as well as his mind and his eyes became heavy. Not only a few seconds later did he fall to sleep.
Remembering that Changkyun didn't like sleeping alone, Jooheon pulled out the trundle from the couch ; carefully so he wouldn't wake up the sleeping maknae. He went back to the closet of said maknae to grab a couple of blankets for himself and possibly if the younger needed it as well. Turning off the lights, Jooheon laid down next to the sleeping boy and covered the both of them in light covers. He too closed his droopy eyes and spiraled into an ocean of dreams.
