It had been a rough couple of weeks. First, your boyfriend had broken up with you. Then, you got fired from your job. And last but not least, your cat had gotten lost and you still hadn't found him. You were upset, to say the least. You just wanted to scream and cry because you were so overwhelmed.

But, instead of wallowing in self-pity at home, you decided to go out to the mall and treat yourself to some food. It had been a while since you'd done something for yourself, and what better time to treat yourself?

You smiled softly to yourself as you walked through the food court, narrowly avoiding at least a half a dozen people as you walked. You got to one of your favourite vendors and quickly ordered a bowl of spicy noodles. You were spending the last of your change on them, and you were looking forward to eating them. You watched the chef make them, practically salivating over them.

Once the person gave it to you, you smiled widely, walking through the food court to find a table to seat yourself at. Walking through the food court was a difficult task. You had to avoid the legs of the tables and chairs, as well as people who needed to get by you.

You spotted a table just a few metres away. You headed for it, clutching your bowl of noodles tightly. Suddenly, while you weren't looking, your foot caught a stray chair leg and you tumbled to the floor, your bowl flying out of your hands and crashing to the floor. You groaned loudly, and felt an overwhelming surge of emotions crash into you.

Before you knew it, you were wailing. You couldn't even get up. You pressed the heels of your hands into your eyes, trying to stop the tears from flowing, but you couldn't. You sniffled, looking around, only to see the people around you laughing and giving you weird looks. You were humiliated.

A few seconds later, you saw a hand in front of you. Looking up, you saw a man standing there, a soft smile on his face. You grabbed his hand cautiously and he pulled you up. Your eyes were blurry, so you couldn't make out much of his face.

"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice deep and comforting.

"I-I...I'm sorry, I'm just going through a lot and I didn't mean to do anything and I feel so embarrassed and I just-" you choked out, feeling another wave of tears start to fall.

"Hey, hey, it's okay. Let's go sit down, okay?"

You nodded weakly. He led you to a table and sat you down. He sat down across from you, crossing his arms and leaning against the table. It took you a few minutes to calm down, but he just sat there the whole time, waiting for you to be able to speak.

As you wiped your tears away and looked at him, you noticed that he was very handsome. You blushed a little while looking at him, a little ashamed of mortifying yourself in front of him. You took a deep breath in, then let a shaky breath out, looking at him.

"Do you feel better?" he questioned.

"A little bit. Sometimes it feels good to cry. Even though it's embarrassing." you said, shaking your head. "I'm sorry that you had to help me. I just...I broke down."

"I helped you because I wanted to. Not because I had to." he shrugged. "Everyone else was just looking at you and laughing, I didn't want to do that. I saw that you were clearly feeling upset, so I wanted to help."

"Well, I appreciate it."

"So, what's going on? I know we just met and we don't know each other, but you seem like you need to talk to someone."

"It's just..." you hesitated.

"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to."

"No, no, you're right. I do need to talk to someone. I'd just...well, can I just know your name first?"

"Oh, of course. I totally forgot to introduce myself." he chuckled. "I'm Avi."

"Avi...I like that name. It's really nice."

You thought you saw him blush a little bit after you said that. You introduced yourself to him, smiling a little bit as you did. You barely knew Avi, but you already liked him and trusted him. He seemed so sweet and genuine.

"Okay...well, where to begin?" you sighed. "My boyfriend broke up with me. I still don't know why. I mean, we weren't together very long, but I still kinda had feelings for him, you know? And then I got fired. And then my cat went missing and I still haven't found him. So, I decided to spend the last little bit of my money to treat myself to some good food, and then I ended up tripping and dropping it. And now I have no boyfriend, no job, no cat, no money, and no noodles. Life hasn't been too kind to me lately."

"I'm sorry to hear that." he said, shaking his head. "But maybe all of this negativity happening in your life is shaping you up for something positive."

"Maybe." you shrugged. "I don't know."

The two of you sat in silence for a moment. After a moment, Avi got up from the table and started to walk away. You felt upset, but you didn't blame him for walking away. You rested your elbows on the table, then put your chin in your hands. You watched Avi walk away for a second, but then he turned back and started walking toward you. Confused, you furrowed your eyebrows.

"Sorry." he said as he came back to the table. "I just wanted to go buy you some food. I should have said something. Is that okay with you?"

"Oh...you don't have to do that." you replied, shaking your head. "I mean, we just met, after all, I don't want to be a burden."

"You're not. I just want to treat you, because you need it right now."

"Okay, if you insist."

He smiled at you, walking away once again. You couldn't help but smile. He was so sweet, you'd never met anyone quite like him before. And he just seemed so selfless. He seemed to care about you, despite the fact that you barely knew him, and that made quite an impact on you.

He came back a few minutes later, and the two of you made easy conversation as you ate together. You felt such a connection to him, and you couldn't quite grasp why, but you couldn't complain.

As the two of you continued to talk for what seemed like hours, you couldn't help but feel like Avi was right. All of the negativity in your life was setting you up for something positive, and you couldn't have felt any happier.
