Kyoukai No Kanata: After-Story

Chapter 006

Mirai's eyes opens as she gazes upon the abyss. No lights could be seen, just the shallow shadows of the darkness. She took her first step in that place; the step she took sounded like she is stepping on a sidewalk. The abyss immediately lift, and light rises.

Mirai's eyes wide open with the Hallow Shadow shifting in the distance. She couldn't believe her eyes.

"Didn't I kill this youmu with Akihito?" Mirai questioned herself.

"Mirai, aren't you coming." Said the voice.

Mirai turns toward to where the voice came from. She spot Yui Inami standing ahead of her where the sidewalk curves next to the river. The youmu comes closer. Mirai ran toward Yui and grab her hand. They ran along the sidewalk, avoiding the Hallow Shadow.

"Mirai? Why are we running?" Yui felt so puzzled as they ran.

"There's a youmu coming our way." Mirai said it.

Yui glanced behind them, she then saw the Hallow Shadow still shifting in the distance. She start running as fast as Mirai is running. They both ran and got home right before the Hallow Shadow catches up to them.

Yui gazed at Mirai, then she burst out laughing. It puzzled Mirai. "W-what's so funny?!"

"It's nothing!" Although, she continues to laugh.

A moment later Yui finally stops her laughter and went up to Mirai's bedroom which is the attic of their house. There she sat on the floor and sighed. Mirai stood gazing around the room.

"What's wrong?" Yui asked.

Mirai's wondering eyes gazed toward her. "Where am I?"

Yui's brows twist as she grin. "This is the Inami residence. Don't tell me you hit your head somewhere."

"Akihito Kanbara... Where is he?" Mirai questioned.

Yui instantly stood up and shoved her against the wall. "How did you know his name?"

How?

Mirai felt her pacing heart. "In the past I was fighting with the Hallow Shadow, I defeated it. I defeat it because I had Akihito with me. He was the pillars that held my strength."

"What?" Yui moves a few steps backward. "I can't believe that. Are you... From the future?"

Mirai flaps her arms. "Of course not! I just felt lost, then I end up back here in this city. I don't know how I got here though. Plus, you're alive, Yui."

"Huh? Of course I'm alive." Yui grabs Mirai's cheeks and pinch it, she suddenly felt pain on her cheeks. "That hurts!" Mirai's tears burst out. Yui let go of her cheeks and sigh. "This is so confusing! Why do you know the stuff that you don't? And your attitude, it's changed."

Mirai instantly blushed. "Don't look at me like that!"

Yui smiles. "So, you are from the future."

"How unpleasant." Mirai pouted.

Yui laughs. "It's totally fine. I don't mind at all, in fact, you're actually more talkative now. Unlike the Mirai I really know of."

"Strange."

"Huh?" Yui blinked.

"How can you accept me that quick? I remember the day we walked to school, but why were we running home? And the Hallow Shadow still alive when I eliminate it a year ago." Mirai said it seriously. "Most importantly you were supposed to die by my hand a very long time ago."

Yui looks down. "Mirai." Then she walks up to Mirai and slaps her. Mirai's eyes wide open. "I'm a Spirit World Warrior, don't fool to me like that. Of course I accepted you immediately, because we're friends. You're one of the most important person in my life."

Mirai felt tears rolling down her cheeks as she held her slapped cheek. "I'm sorry."

That afternoon Mirai and Yui ate the dinner Sakura made. After finishing it, Mirai took Sakura to the yard of the Inami residence. Mirai looks around the yard, then she notice that there weren't any snow. Definitely she isn't in the present.

"Sakura, do you remember anyone named Akihito Kanbara? Or even Mitsuki Nase?" Mirai asked, hoping for a response.

Sakura blinked. "I don't know who you're talking about, but I have heard of the surname Nase. It is a family line full of responsible Spirit World Warriors, which they are classified with normal Spirit World Warriors like you and my sister."

Mirai sighed with a smile. "Thanks Sakura. I'll be going back to bed then. I felt kind of dozed off."

She watches Mirai enter the house. The afternoon has ended, so Sakura and Yui went to sleep, leaving Mirai awake alone. She couldn't sleep even if she wanted to, because she is worried about Akihito. Without second thoughts, Mirai stood up from her bed and wore her casual clothings. Then she sneaks out of the Inami residence.

Mirai rode the train to see Akahito herself at the Nagatsuki City. Although she left a note for Sakura and Yui if they ever wonder where she went. Mirai took a deep breath as the train arrives at the Nagatsuki City. She walked as calm as she could, just looking around the city. Everything she remembers, it happens right here in this very city. The sun began to raise from the horizon.

If I am correct, then this is Akihito's first year in high school.

Mirai smiles and ran for Akahito. Her heart is racing so fast that her happiness just overwhelms her. She couldn't wait to see him. Mirai halt in front of Akihito's apartment door, she is panting. Then the door handle twist opens, Mirai gazed at the opening door, and happily she sees her lover.

"Oh, hello there." He blinked.

"Akahito!" Mirai instantly shoved him against the door with her hands grips on his sweater. "I need to talk to you!"

"Uh.. Sure." Said Akihito.

They walked to a small playground, sitting on a bench together. Mirai remembers the time when she lost her memories, she was furious with herself. He was worried about her. Although, she always goes to him whenever she needed help.

"What do you want to talk about?" Said Akihito.

Mirai looks at him with a serious gaze. "Do you know me?"

He yawns. "What kind of question is that? Of course I dont know you. I thought you're lost or something. Are you okay?"

Mirai felt tears rolling down her cheeks. Akihito instantly react on her tears, standing up from the bench, "Look! I didn't do anything to hurt you!"

Mirai shook her head, then she gazed away. "I don't know anymore. I'm lost."

Akihito sigh as he adjust his school bag. "Well, I'll be going to school then, if you don't mind. You can go have a talk with the Nase family if you want to, besides." He paused. "Nothing."

Akihito turns toward Mirai and ask, "What's your name?"

"My name is Mirai Kuriyama." She said.

"Mirai, huh?" Akahito walks away. Mirai stands up from the bench and watches him walk away. Then something hit her.

"That's right. Izumi Nase."
