The Dragon Girl

Chapter 3

    The next morning, Ezera awoke before her siblings. Their mother was gone, so Ezera stood. She looked around the cave for her mother hearing voices from the cave mouth. She wondered closer, the voices growing louder. She peeked around the edge, staying out of sight. She saw her mother standing with another dragon. He, as she assumed from his voice, had deep blue scales along with Amber eyes, and long light blue spines extending along his spine. "Please Namaura. You are needed at this next battle, our ranks would be reassured by a experience fighter in the ranks," The blue dragon spoke in his low voice.
    "Chorus, you know I have hatchlings to care for. I can not accompany you," her mother replied, in a low voice.
    Chorus shifted from foot to foot. "But, you see we are only flying over the village, starting a fire. You may bring you hatchlings along on your back..." he argued, trying to find a reason for her to come.
    "Chorus I do not wish to put my children at risk" she argued defiantly.
    "It wouldn't be that big a risk... besides, Torrent wishes for you to come," he said in a small voice.
    Her mother froze. She could not deny a request from torrent, their leader. He had done her a justice, allowing her to continue in her care of Ezera. She owed him. "Fine," she growled stubbornly.
    "Thank you Namaura, it is appreciated." He dipped his head awkwardly, backing out of the cave. Namaura sighed, shaking her head. She looked back, seeing Ezera. The scarlet dragon turned, she ushered Ezera back to her siblings. She once again curled around them, and Ezera looked up to her, puzzled. "Huh, my child. All will be well," She reassured the puzzled child. Ezera shock her head, and trailed back to sleep. Her mother smiled, looking down at her sleeping hatchlings. She wouldn't let harm fall upon them. With this thought she nuzzled into her children, falling asleep.
