A week later and Jack and I still had nothing. I was loosing hope of finding whoever was behind those flowers and that note. Within the week I've come to trust Jack more, I also became quite fond of Amelia, she was an angel. Truly.

When I had a breakdown last night she accidentally caught me and managed to comfort me in ways only Ivy could. I saw Ivy in her sometimes, I wanted to hold her so much, to kiss her and stare into her green eyes. I wanted to hear her say she loved me, say it will be okay...

I signed and dropped my head into my hands, I haven't slept much last night. I stayed up rummaging my mind trying to find someone who could've had an agenda against me. No one sparked my interest. I groaned into my hands, I heard Jack's chair graze the floor and soon his hand touched my shoulder. I looked up at him and he wore a sad smile, "I'm sorry I failed you Harleen" he said. I shook my head at him, "You didn't fail me Jack, you've been of great help" I assured him. He smiled with more meaning but I knew something else was going through his mind.

He returned to his seat and leaned back, pulling out a cigarette he lit it and took a drag. I watched his pale cheeks dip in and then come back out as the smoke left his lips. He made smoking look attractive I had to give it to him, then again he always made things look attractive.

"Harleen?" he said snapping me back to reality, "sorry, what did you say?" I shook my head trying to clear my mind. Jack chuckled and motioned to his hand holding a packet of cigarettes, "Would you like one? It's quite relaxing" he suggested. I stared at the packet for a moment before reaching out and grabbing one between my fingertips, he slid me the lighter and I brought the cig to my lips, gently grasping it in my lips. I lifted up my hand and lit the tip, taking in a shaky drag. It burned my throat for a moment before it settled and I exhaled, I closed my eyes and leaned back. Waiting for the nicotine rush to pass, it's been so long since I last smoked.

So long I forgot how calming it felt.

"Thanks Jack" I said opening my eyes, he was watching me closely, his head tilted to the side. The way his eyes grew dark awoke something in the pits of my stomach, I felt my skin prick under his gaze. "Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked trying to hide the shaking of my voice. Jack took another drag and kept silent until the smoke left his lips, I took a breath in as he left one out.

"I really messed you up" he finally said. I leaned forward, "You've only just realised?" I asked smirking. He shook his head, "You were messed up before I met you, I just made you more messed up than you already were Harley". He had a point there, I was a mess. "I guess you could say that" I said watching the tip of my cig burn orange, "I really did love you, despite what I did". That caught my attention, my eyes focused on his own, "I know you did, I just wasn't the one to save you".

Silence filled the room after that.

Until my phone rung in my pocket, I reached for it and when I saw Bruce's name on the screen I pressed answer and brought the device to my ear.

"Bruce?" I said with confusion.

"Harley..." he said, his voice sounded off. It made my skin crawl as a strange feeling crawled over me.

"What is it?" I asked wishing I never did.

"It's Hope, She's gone".

I dropped my phone.

My world came crashing down once again.

"Harley? What is it?".

"They took my baby"...
