“Rebecca, you’re ok!”
Rebecca stepped through the portrait hole, into the Common Room, to find a mass gathering of Gryffindors. She froze as Hermione rushed over to her with a worried expression on her face. “Uh... Yeah I’m fine. Why? What’s going on?”
“Harry thinks there’s going to be trouble tonight,” Ginny explained. Her fiery hair was tied up in a ponytail as she examined her wand, she undoubtedly looked ready for battle.
“W-what’s supposed to be happening?” Rebecca asked, trying not to sound overly curious. A sense of dread was beginning to bubble inside her. Did they really know?
“We’re not sure yet,” Ron replied, soothing Rebecca’s nerves a little.
“A few of us are going to patrol the corridors just in case,” Hermione added. “You’re welcome to join us, if you’d like?”
Rebecca hesitated as she thought. If she stayed here, they might think something was up, however if she went with them it would be harder to get away but at least she’d have an alibi. “Let me get changed into something a little more suitable first,” she said with a brief smile. “You guys go ahead, and I’ll meet you.”
“I’m going to go and find Luna, and then we’re going to go and find Snape,” Hermione said, speaking not just to Rebecca but to everyone. “Ron, you take Ginny and Neville with you to search. The rest of you group up and monitor the corridors. If you see anything, come and find either us or someone from the Order.”
There were a few incoherent mumblings as everyone began to depart. Rebecca simply stood and watched as they exited one-by-one out of sight, leaving her alone in the now empty room. In a flurry of panic, she whirled around and legged it up the stairs, taking two or three steps at a time. Once by her bed she flung open her case and pulled out the darkest items of clothing she could find and quickly changed into them.
She then made sure she still had the Darkness Powder on her, along with her mask and wand, and fastened her cloak around her neck.
Taking a long, exhausted breath, she slowly went back down the stairs and then exited the Common Room, searching for students as she tiptoed through the near silence.
“Who’s there?!” Came a frightened yelp as Rebecca rounded a corner on the seventh floor.
She had suspected that getting to the Room of Requirement wouldn’t be easy, however she hadn’t thought that anyone would be patrolling right outside it.
“It’s ok, it’s just me,” she replied, holding her hands up in defence as Neville lowered his wand.
“Oh, sorry Rebecca,” he apologised, ending the sentence with an uneasy sigh. “For a moment I thought you were a Death Eater or something.”
“Haha, yeah right,” Rebecca laughed falsely.
Neville too gave a light chuckle. “Yeah, as if. Although... what are you wearing?”
“I thought I’d wear something dark,” Rebecca explained hastily, “that way I can sneak around without being seen. It’d be foolish to be in my uniform – if anyone where to break into the school they’d probably attack me on the spot.”
“That’s a good idea,” Neville said, looking down at his own school clothes, a bothered look on his face. “Do you think I should change?”
Rebecca nodded “I would if I were you. Where are Ron and Ginny?”
“Downstairs,” Neville replied, already undoing his tie. “Would you mind waiting here for them until they get back? I won’t be too long.”
“Of course,” Rebecca said, a devilish smirk playing havoc on her lips as Neville hurried off to change.
