One Thursday morning, Kathy woke up feeling tired. She got ready for school and went to the kitchen. Her mother had prepared an English breakfast. She saw her parents sitting at the table and sat on her chair. She ate quickly, not wanting to be late for school.
"Try and make friends today, OK. Love you," Paps said kissing her on the forehead and went out to work. Friends? who needs friends. Kathy didn't want any. Everybody at school was annoying. They laugh and talk too much.
" You do need friends, Kathy." said her mother.
Kathy frowned. " Its not my fault they don't want to be friends with me."
"I'm sure its not but at least try to strike up a conversation with somebody,"
" Too shy. But don't worry about it," said Kathy as she bit the sausage.
Her mother sighed. " Okay, hurry up. You don't wanna be late,"
After finishing her breakfast, she kissed her mother's cheeks and went out of the house. She really did not want to go to school. She hated it. Too busy there.
She passed by a park on her way. School wasn't very far but she sure had to walk a distance.
Suddenly, she tripped on her untied shoelaces and fell directly into a puddle.
"Urgh, i keep forgetting!" she shouted to herself as she proceeded to tie her shoelaces.
She had scratched her elbow. Kathy got up feeling disgusted. She hated getting wet AND dirty. She checked her uniform. It was terrible. "It's too late to go back now," she said to herself.
Her school was just around the corner. Her uniform was soaked with mud and dirty water. She then ran to the school toilet and tried washing herself . A few of the students saw her and smirked. Kathy felt shy. Then the school bell rang.
Now that she has cleaned herself up or at least try to, she took her bag and went to her classroom, avoiding contact with other students. A few girls giggled as Kathy sat at her table. Everyone was staring at her and her dirty uniform.
She had never been embarrassed like this. She just hated the attention.
"You fell didn't you? It rained last night. You should be more careful," a girl beside her advised. Kathy nodded and kept quite until the English teacher came in.
After a while, the school bell rang again indicating the time to go home. Katherine was pleased because she hated school that day the most. Many teachers scolded her. Many students laughed at her.
Generally, she hated school. Too many people at one place, she thinks. Too much noises. She'd rather be at home where its peaceful and quiet. Where she could do whatever she wants.
Then, the school bell rang again after a while. It was time to go home. She rushed out of the school, lugging her heavy school bag.
That particular day, she decided to use the short cut back home. She was walking quickly. Her uniform was very dirty. What was her mother going to say. She felt worried and scared.
Then she tripped on her shoelaces .... again.
