It had already been months since Kathy met Lucy. They had become the best of friends. Kathy had never had a friend like her. She never really had a proper friend before. Lucy made going to school worthwhile. They would meet at the same place after school every weekday.

Sometimes, if Kathy had some work to do, Lucy would gladly help out. It made homework more fun. She would keep Kathy company when there's nothing else to do. They play together in that green and red play box. They read interesting novels. They tell stories. They share jokes and laugh at them. Kathy was grateful for a friend like Lucy.

That box is now their friendship.

Even her parents know about Lucy. Kathy would tell them about their adventures together. Her parents had never seen Kathy behave like that before. Now, she talks much more. And her school works were getting much better than before. All thanks to Lucy.

Whenever  Kathy had to go home, she felt a little sad to leave Lucy. But her spirits were lifted up when Lucy invited her for another adventure the next day.

It was a Monday, 23rd of August. Kathy and Lucy were both in the box. Lucy was telling her a story she wrote by herself.

" So, she took the sword from his hands and ran up the spiral staircase," said Lucy, reading a story from a piece of paper. " She jammed the computer with the diamond sword.... THE END,"

" Is that it? What happened next?" asked Kathy in wonder.

" I haven't finished it yet, that's all up till now. Maybe i could change it a little. Like instead of a book, she got a notepad. Makes it more convincing." said Lucy.

She folded the papers and put it in her pocket. Then opened her mouth to say something. Then, she closed them shut again. Lucy sat there looking at Kathy in silence.

Kathy looked at her watch which showed six thirty in the evening. " Anything you wanna say? Better be quick, i've gotta go now." she said loudly, her voice almost echoed inside the box.

Kathy got up from her sore bottom. She looked at Lucy who was staring at her, in deep thought.

" No?," asked Kathy raising her eyebrows. This was weird, she thought. Lucy had never been so quiet. She had never been so stable. Usually, she's moving around all the time. Changing subjects, talking like a speeding car. But not this time...

Lucy decided to take out the papers from her pocket. " You know, you have it." . She handed the papers to Kathy. " Finish it," she said. " Finish the story for me."

Kathy accepted the papers, putting it in her bag between her textbooks. "Okay, no problem. But don't complain if you think its not good enough. I'll try."

Kathy was starting to feel uncomfortable again.  Lucy never gives anyone her stories.

Lucy smiled to Kathy. She got up and walked out of the box. Kathy followed her out.

" Bye then. You said you should go," said Lucy

" Kay, see you later. I'll be back with the story tomorrow," said Kathy.

Another thing she wondered about.  Lucy always asks her to come back the following day. She's also the one who used to remind her to go home at six. But not this time. Just not this time.

She caught a glimpse of Lucy waving at her before turning to walk back home. Kathy waved from behind her back. Her mind full of questions.

She walked a few metres before deciding to ask Lucy why she gave her the papers.

But Lucy wasn't there. Probably she had gone, Kathy thought. That was quick.

And Kathy continued on her journey back to the house.
