Charter 14

Steff's pov

She opened her laptop and pulled up the skype app. While she waited for him to call she told Aly to click on the green button and she went into the kitchen to clean up their snack mess. She just got a cloth for wiping off counters when he called. She went out as Aly answered. 

"Hey." Zake smiled on the screen. "How are my baby girls doing?"

"Baby?" Steff and Aly said in sync. 

"I'm not a baby anymore." Aly huffed. "I go to school now." 

"Yeah and I go to work." Steff huffed.

Zake laughed. "Okay. Then how are my girls?"

"Fine." They said. 

"I got an ouchie at school." Aly said pulling her leg into his view.

"What happened?"

"She fell." Steff  answered fast.

"Oh, I'm sorry b- girl" 

"So how did your day go?" Steff changed the subject.

"Oh." He sounded excited. "It went better than I thought. I was so nervous. I thought I would faint." He chuckled. "How was your day?"

"Great. I went to see Addy and her baby girl. They're naming her Mollie. She's so cute.." she took out her phone and showed him the picture Scott took of her with his baby. 

"Awe, she is cute." Zake said leaning in to get a better look. "You look good with a baby."

"Thanks." she blushed. A man came up behind him and tapped Zake's shoulder. 

"Yeah?" He turned

"You can go home now." The man said. "We will continue tomorrow. Goodnight sir. You did good today. Keep it up." The man left an Zake turned back to them. 

"Come here." Steff smiled. "So you aren't alone. we can put a movie on and have a small movie night to celebrate your success."

"No." He shrugged. "I don't want to be too big of a burden for you. I'll just go home."

"No daddy." Aly said. "I want you to come here. I want to show you my homework. Also you have to be here to help me."

"You're fine. Just come."

"Are you sure?" 

She laughed. "Yes. Now come."

"Okay I'll be there in ten." He blew them a kiss. "Love you."

"Told you he loves you." Aly said looking at Steff. 

"See ya later." She laughed.

Zake's pov

He left the court house and went to his house to get a night bag. He hurried out the door and went to Steff's house. On his way he thought about her having kids of her own. His heart broke when he thought it might not be with him. He had to prove himself to her. He stopped at a market and got roses for her. When he got there he went to the back and knocked on her deck door. 

"You don't have to knock Zake, you can just come-" Steff said, stopping when she saw the flowers. "In. What are those?"

"Roses." He held them out. "For you." She took them still in awe.

"Daddy!" Aly ran to him. He closed the door and piked her up hugging her. Steff stood frozen.

"How was your first day of school?" He said to Aly and Steff blinked out of her haze.
