Penny Atkins was a calm, collected and proud mother of one, with another baby soon to be joining the family full of life and positivity. "There's no way he could be a negative emotion, Mira! Don't say something silly." Laughter filled the phone as the pregnant woman strolled back and forth through the narrow hallway communicating to her younger sister, every-so-often ranting about the events surrounding her eight-month pregnancy.
"He could get the recessive gene from his great grandfather! We all remember how Great Grandpa would get if we so much as even looked at his pistachios." Mira retorted, snickering on the other side of the line feeling a tug at her leg as she reclined on the mint-green sofa.
"I guess they didn't call him Grandpa 'Livid' Larry for no reason," Penny chuckled and from the other line she heard a cheery, squeaky voice that she recognized as her niece's.
"Oh, sorry, Penny! Let me just take care of this real quick." Mira looked down at her daughter who tugged at her leg more.
"Mommy! Mommy! You promised you'd play paper boats with Tyty and me." The six-year-old girl brought out her lower lip and gave a lost puppy dog look that was sure to work on Mira as it always did.
Mira ran her fingers through her daughter's long, golden hair. "Alright, 'Fun' Faith! I guess I did promise to have a game with you and your brother, Tyson." She sighed happily, bringing the phone she set down back in her hands, hitting the 'speaker' button and holding it out in front of her. "Say hello to your aunt Penny, Faith before we go play!"
Faith's hazel eyes lit up with astonishment and a glow as she realized who she was talking to. Her favorite aunt, and her only one, coincidentally. "Hi Aunt Penny! Can she come over and play boats with us, too, Mommy?"
Mira looked down at her daughter and shook her head, "Sorry, dear. Penny's been a bit sick, lately, she has to stay home and rest up for a while before she can visit again."
"But, why?"
"Fun, fun Faith, hello!" Penny greeted happily from the line, adding excitement to her voice to talk to her niece. "You'll be having a nephew soon, I'm having a son."
Faith had been waiting to play with Keira, Penny's daughter for a while, except she was two years old. Faith had to be gentle with her because she was often rambunctious and hyper, as compared with Keira's well-behaved and shy demeanor she'd already displayed being a toddler. Faith still couldn't wait to welcome another happy and healthy baby to play with when he gets old enough.
"Yay!" She chirped as she heard the news and jumped up and down. "Can you name him Ant?" Faith asked. Mira looked down at her and chuckled at what she said.
"Ant! I think she's been hanging around Tyson too much. He's been using the magnifying glass to burn all of the fire ants in the backyard. It's his revenge for one of them biting him." Mira explained, trying to refrain from laughing during her story.
Penny beamed, "I don't think I could name him Ant, but I could name him Anthony!" She said as the idea clicked in her mind. Mira smirked and chuckled.
"Alright, Patient Penny. I think it's time to play boats with the kids before Tyson finds the magnifying glass again. And I'm sure Anthony Atkins will be a blessing to this family. Anyway, I'll text you tonight! I love you, sis," Mira stated and held the phone out to an energetic, bubbly Faith.
