It had been quite a while. 3 years wasn't just something that would pass by in the blink of an eye. His little sister had grown up. Granted, she was still an "ankle-biter", but to Sam, sixteen was big enough.
He could remember when it was just him, Dean, and John. And honestly, it was the farthest thing from the Brady Bunch. Then she came along. Y/N. It was a miracle that the kid was still alive, among all the wreckage, but she was. It was one of the best things John had done for the family. Gave them a little sister. To raise, to love, and to cherish.
"Sam, why are you looking at me like I just killed a puppy?," Y/N questioned as she reached forward and grabbed some of Dean's fries, him crying out in indignation.
"If I wanted a sister who ate all my food, I would've picked Sam up from college three years ago," Dean remarked. Y/N smacked him upside the head (HEY!) and shushed him. "I'm trying to understand why Sam looks constipated. Don't interrupt."
Sam shook his head and chuckled, his eyes glistening. He didn't regret college nor did he regret Jess, but he should have kept in better touch, should been there for his little sister. He could see it in the way Dean and Y/N acted, like true siblings. He remembered being tangled up in all of that, and he missed it.
He would do better. He wouldn't give up on college, never that, but he would reach out to the kid. He owed it to himself and to her.
"You grew up," Sam answered, shaking his head.
"Well, duh, that's what happens when Mr. Puberty comes knocking on the door. If you'd like I could give you the talk, you know the one with the —–Dean what's wrong with you?", she spluttered trying to wipe off the taste of his hand that he had decided to slap on her face, discontinuing her from talking anymore.
"There is no way in hell my sister knows about the birds and the bees," Dean cried out in indignation, his eyes shut and his head shaking as he tried to erase those images from his head.
"I meant that I missed you guys," Sam interrupted, knowing that Dean and Y/N's antics could go on forever.
"Aww Sammy," Y/N cooed as Dean mimed puking into his quarter pounder. "We missed you too!"
Sam could see that his brother and sister would not take this seriously, as they never had, but he also knew that it was okay. He could and would make up for the time lost between the three.
Dean pulled away from his chair, and sat up. "Well, if you two are done discussing your feelings, we have a job."
Y/N threw her hands up and screeched "Let's go torch this Constance Welch bitch!"
Dean and Sam both shushed her and got her out of the diner before Y/N deemed it necessary to inform the entire world about what was really crawling under their beds.
Goodness, it was good to be back.
