Phil learnt a lot about Dan that evening in his cabin. His favourite colour is black, he has a younger brother which he loves very much and he loves to stay in and watch anime most nights, which Phil agreed was a good way to spend the evenings.
They both decided it would be a good idea for Phil to sit out on the swimming part of the raft building to stay on the safe side. He didn't want a repeat of what happened in the pool.
Phil was in a nice group for his activities, and the other leader in his group, Joey, seemed very friendly and bubbly. However he kind of wished he had Pj and maybe Dan to be with him.
"Hey guys!" Joey exclaimed, causing Phil to flinch slightly at the loud tone of his voice. "Today we are doing raft building. Who has done it before?"
About 5 kids but their hands up, and Joey looked around and nodded.
"Great! So, Ivy and Nick, you two are team leaders." Joey said, picking two from that selection of people. "You'll all be on two teams, and I'm going to give you a selection of objects for you all to make a raft out of, and the first team to make a raft and successfully get it to the other side of this pond wins! I'm going to be keeping an eye on one team and Phil will be keeping an eye on the other" He said, placing a hand on my shoulder. "Dan will be on the other side to judge who wins!"
Phil's eyes opened a little wider, and he looked around as he didn't recall Dan being a part of their group. As all of the campers got talking about their techniques and Joey tried to organise them into teams, Phil saw Dan jogging up to him from the path on his left which led towards the main camp.
"Oh my God I'm late" Dan said with a chuckle, holding Phil's shoulder with one hand and resting the other on his hip, bent over and breathing heavily. "I just ran all the way here! Had a meeting with the boss, you know how it is" Dan said with a wink and Phil just nodded, even though he didn't know "how it is" and turned his head to watch the others with a light flush of pink on his cheeks.
Phil was glad Dan was there, he had someone to talk to now, and Dan knows about his small 'problem'.
All the kids got into the teams Joey had given them, and they all started discussing team tactics. Joey then blew his whistle and they all looked at him. "Is everyone ready?" he said loudly. Everyone nodded and all the leaders got in their positions. "Right! Three, two, one, GO!".
Phil and Joey were desperate to help the kids, but we were only allowed to cheer them on, so they were both screaming manically at them to give them advise. Both teams seemed to work out a good method for the rafts, and Joey's team were the first to get their raft in the water. Phil's team were a little bit slower. Phil glanced over at Dan and he was crouched on the floor, intently looking at both teams to see who would win. All of a sudden, he heard his team shouting louder to each other and realised the raft was in the water. Just as that happened the other team's fell apart and the plastic barrels we'd given them were floating away. At this point the black haired boy's team were pushing their raft closer to the finish line and Joey clambered into the water to help his team and Phil sighed, glad he didn't have to do the same.
"And Phil's team wins!" Phil heard Dan shout, and he turned his head, his hair slightly curled at the ends, and gave Phil a small wink which made him smile then look away quickly.
Joey looked gutted but he didn't let that get him down and everyone clapped for the winning team. All the kids grabbed their towels and they made their way back to the showers and changing rooms.
Phil heard jogging feet behind him and he turned slightly just to see Dan come up by his side.
"How was that then?" He asked with a smile, "your first activity!"
