Chapter 1: Triforce
Long ago we learned of her name. Long ago we kept her secret safe.
Be still and listen, there is much to tell. The story was at one point known to many, but now has been forgotten by most. For us to proceed you must keep with you this knowledge, for it is the foundation of our tale.
With that said, I will proceed.
It starts with the birth of our world, a world with no name. Within it our players presently work the instruments of fate until they, each of them, will reach a unifying chorus of blood and tears.
But we must know what came before them.
The universe, it is said, was forged by a being too immense and great to imagine. From chaos there was suddenly order, and from that order there was design. From that design there came the creation of the immortals, descendents of the original power gifted with control over chaos as well. These were the gods.
Three went separate from the others, and decided to build a world within this newfound order. These were the goddesses of our world: Din, Farore and Naryu.
Din wielded the most power, and had a will that could stop time itself. From her fire of creation she crafted the ground, mountains, rivers, forests, fields and oceans. Her creations were immense and overwhelming, but also necessary and beautiful.
Farore, courageous and joyous, glided through the wind while singing a song of life. There suddenly came all types of beasts, birds, fish, bugs, and creatures too tiny to see or hear.
From the rocks she went on to build the noble Goron people. Then, from the water, she crafted the proud Zora. From the trees she breathed life into the spirits of the wood, the Kokiri children and fairies. With the mists she created the Sheikah people, secretive and clever. Lastly, from the desert sands, she sculpted the rugged and relentless Gerudo.
Naryu, wisest of the three, saw what her sister goddesses had done and knew there had to be order to resist the threat of chaos. She built the laws of the world, and with a great hammer forged the threads of fate for all life to follow. She then cracked open the smallest window of chaos, letting love out, and allowing the creatures of this new world to both know it and share it, for good or ill.
The three goddesses saw their work and agreed it was good. It was then that together they created a master race to guide all others, the Hylians. With sharpened ears they were given the gift to hear the voices of the gods and understand their will. They were also given the most fertile lands and all the knowledge necessary to encourage life in their world. It was left to them the responsibility of all around them, not the pride or entitlement to dominate.
As they prepared to depart into the void above and create more worlds, the goddesses created three golden fragments of their powers to leave behind. Golden triangles, they each represented the goddess’s strongest gifts: Din’s power, Farore’s courage and Naryu’s wisdom. The triangles found each other and bound together, creating a great, golden triangle known as the sacred Triforce.
The goddesses were dismayed to see the new life they had created scramble and clamber for the Triforce, killing each other carelessly as they reached for the golden triangle that could give them the powers of the gods. Naryu reached a hand out and from the tip of her finger there came another crack in reality, a doorway to a sacred realm. Din grasped the heavy, flaming relic and placed the Triforce within the sacred realm, away from mortal eyes. Farore boldly told only one Hylian how to reach the sacred realm, and what would happen if anyone did.
With that the goddesses left, and life was allowed to thrive without their presence. Thousands of years past and the goddesses themselves became stories old women would tell the children in the villages. The Triforce became an unattainable myth to all who did not know the secret way to reach it. Nevertheless, it was still something those who desired power sought.
The secret entrance to the sacred realm was passed down from generation to generation, until finally it was told to me, Rauru, a sage of the kingdom of Hyrule on the eastern continent. For years my ancestors have known the secret, and it is my duty to pass the lesson on to my son so he may pass it on after I am gone. It is our blessed obligation.
Long ago we learned of her name. Long ago we kept her secret safe.
She is Zelda, the only key to the sacred realm and the Triforce beyond. This is her legend.
