"So then that would mean x=4 squared!" I said as I was just about to write it down.

"Mmm... no it equals 23." Jake responded taking the pencil from my hand.

"Oh... but I was close right? "I said looking at Jake with sparkling eyes.

"Err, yeah you were totally closer than last time."

I sighed. I knew he was lying, I was nowhere near the answer.

"Just face it I'm ludicrously bad at maths."

"You're really not that bad at all. Really. Its just algebra you're struggling on. I promise ill help you if you help me in English. Deal?"

I smile with delight.

"It's a deal."

"So I asked my mother and she said we have to be back before dark and she said to tell you that she is profoundly jubilant that you came over to play."

"Tell her I said hi and I will have an ENTERTAINING time with your WONDERFUL daughter Mallory. And also tell her thank you for such NIFTY cookies." Jake said whilst putting on a posh English accent.

"First of all NIFTY is used to describe something fashionable and stylish. Second of all I'm not going all the way back to my mother to tell her. Just tell her when you are on your way home."

"Wow. I don't know how I became your friend." Jake said pretending to yawn.

"I beg your pardon."

"No one I know says that anymore...and half the words you say to me every day."

"I'm just going to ignore what you said to me." I said folding my arms and turning my back towards him.

"Mal I'm sorry. I didn't mean some of the things I said- OW! OK fine ALL of the things I said. Please forgive me. Mal? Mallory?"

"OK. I forgive you. So, what do you want to do?"

"I don't know mmm.... Hide and seek!"

"What are you 5?"I said sitting down on the swing again.

"What? No I am 17 and I'm older than you. Come on trust me this is going to be fun. We can explore the places we haven't seen before..." he said taking my hand and slowly helping me up.

"Fine I guess it will be quite pleasant."

"Great! Let's go!"
