“Hello Claire?”
“Hey Cathy. What’s up? Wait, are you crying,” I sniffed through the phone.
“Can you come over? I need a friend.”
“Be there in 10,” I hung up and curled back into a ball with a blanket.
A few minutes passed and I heard a car purred and a door slam in our driveway. Then I heard someone walking on towards my room and the door opened.
“Oh my god! Cathy what happened?” Cathy asked walking towards me in the bed then hugged me for comfort.
“Matt. H-he’s *sniff* he’s”
“He’s what?”
“He cheated on me and broke up with me,” and by that I broke into sobs again.
She rubbed my back again and I rested my head on her shoulder, “That dick. He better thank god that he’s in Minnesota or he’ll be dead right now. “
After a few minutes Maria brought a pint of chocolate ice cream and some strawberries and left us.
“He’s not worth it Cathy.”
“I just can’t believe he’ll do that to me.”
“What did Seth say?” She said but I just remained quiet and ate some more ice cream. “Cathy, does Seth know?”
“No, He’s always pissed when I talk about Matt much more if I tell him what happened. And he’s got a lot of problems at home, which by the way he still hasn’t told me. Anyway, I just don’t wanna be a burden.”
“He’s your best friend. You have to.”
“Fine then, tomorrow. But can you sleep over tonight. “
“Sure.”
We got to bed and a lent him some comfortable clothes. We are now lying in bed. I can’t sleep. I’m actually scared of telling Seth.
“Claire, how will I tell Seth?”
“Oh boy, I don’t know. Just tell me when you do so I can leave before he burst into anger.”
Next morning came by and I avoided Seth as much as possible, which was really hard since we had a lot of class together and always sat by each other. Good thing he’s awfully quiet ever since the first day of class. I got away with it all until lunch.
“So, what time are we supposed to be at your house Cathy,” Erin said. SHIT! I totally forgot about the party. I’m not really in the party mood today. I just wanna stay home all day.
“Uhh, sorry girls, but I think I’m going to have to pass.” Everyone turned towards me except Claire since she already knows what’s happening. I gave them confused looks and I turned, even Seth is staring at me.
“But why,” Anna whined and I just shrugged and continued eating still feeling their gazes.
“Cathy?” Seth started.
“One minute you’re excited and the next you’re not,” Erin said.
“Oh come on girl. This is the biggest party of the year,” –Anna
“Cathy?”-Seth.
“I’ll just wear it for the next party,” I said sounding annoyed.
They didn’t push though it and carried on what they were doing before, all except for Seth.
“What happened?” He asked again and I just remained silent.
“Damn in Cathy,” he shouted slamming his fist on the table. Now everyone on the cafeteria remained silent and I felt all eyes are on our table. It’s not every day Seth became this angry. Last time was when Matt asked me out, and then now that he broke up with me.
