"Damien? Can I ask you something?" I said into the darkness ahead.
"Is it about how clever and smart I am?" Damien replied somewhere in front of me.
"No. I mean do you have any idea where you're going?" I asked skeptically.
"Of course I do." Damien snorts.
"Then why are we walking through a pitch black cave with no way to see where we're going?" I ask with a sigh.
It had been only two days since we had set out for my former village. Damien insisted that he knew a faster way and took the lead without listening to my argument that he had never been there in the first place. Then naturally he lead us right into a mess as usual which didn't surprise me in the least.
"I told you that it was a shortcut." he replied in mock offense.
"Oh is that right? I never realized that my old village was located in a cave." I retorted.
"Well if your so smart then why didn't you take the lead in the first place?"
"Hmm. Let me think here. Maybe it because you wouldn't listen to me when I pointed out that you've never been to my village?"
"Wait. I smell something" Damien says stopping and causing me to run into his backside. I fall backward and land on mine.
"What is it?" I ask as I pick myself up and pointlessly look around in the dark.
"Something's following us. I don't know what though." Damien replies.
Then a roar somewhere not far behind us reverberates off the walls causing my ears to ring. We take off running down the tunnel blindly stumbling over rocks and grooves in the floor. The thing behind us stared giving chase to us as well. I could hear it growling a ways behind me and put on a burst of speed. Then Damien stops again but this time I stopped before running into him again. He sniffs the air.
"This way." he says and takes off again with me close behind.
The thing was slowly gaining but I noticed the tunnel getting slowly lighter as we ran. I looked around the bulk of Damien and see a small orb of light. I immediately put on another burst off speed and it starts coming closer and closer. Then suddenly we burst out into a world of blinding sunlight.
We had burst into a small meadow. The grass was a bright cheerful green with flowers scattered around it. A spring sat at the far end across from us surrounded by rocks. The surrounding trees were thick but the undergrowth was sparse for lack of sunlight. I turned around and looked at the exit we just came out of. It was but a hole in a wall of a cliff. It's sheer face was steep and looked menacing to whoever looked upon it. I heard a growl come from the cave. I look and a pair of glowing red eyes stared out at me then disappeared back into the deep dark.
I shivered then turned to where Damien sat with a wide smirk on his face.
"I told you it was a shortcut." he replied still smirking. I rolled my eyes at him then turned to look at the meadow. Then I gasped.
I did recognized the place. This was the place I had succesfully killed my first prey. I remembered that day as if it was yesterday. I smiled to myself a little. This meant I wasn't far from my destination. Soon I was going to get the revenge that I had craved for so long.
"Kiena? It's time to go." Damien said.
"Fine then, but I'm leading the way this time." I snapped without much coldness in my voice. Then I turned and started walking.
"What's wrong with me leading?" Damien asked with mock innocence.
"Hmm...let me see...because I don't want something else to come after us again." I said without turning to look at him.
