The next day Fanol woke up at eight in the morning. Her Tuesday and Thursday classes did not begin until nine. She had gone to bed at midnight pondering over the information she had on Rifstejar. Fanol had the beginning chapter of the book Sergei had lent her, the Celestial War: Myth or Not. Quickly it seemed that the Celestial War was not a myth. She had read how the angels killed the invisible people when they refused to change their ways. She read about how God and the Devil made a truce and how the Devil kept a group of twenty people from God the day God spread his power to make human visible. That was as far as Fanol had gotten to read before Anya had come over to hangout until eleven.
Fanol headed to the kitchen where she made toast and bacon. As she started to eat, Fanol felt like there was another person in the room. Yet no matter how many times Fanol looked, there wasn’t a person in sight. Briefly she thought it could be a Rifstejar, but Fanol quickly shoved the thought away. She didn’t know any Rifstejar, good or bad, and she was pretty sure none of the Rifstejar knew about her. She then thought it might be Lucifer trying to communicate, but when Fanol called his name in her mind, he didn’t reply. After a moment, Fanol went back to eating, content nobody else was there.
She only had two classes today and each was an hour and a half long. She had Russian from nine to ten-thirty, then an hour break, and then finished her day with Chemistry from eleven-thirty to one.
Around eight-thirty Fanol packed up and got her bike to head over to college. She was about to head out the door when she noted that her mail on the table had been moved. It had only moved slightly, maybe just an inch to the left, but it was enough that Fanol knew it had been moved. She used to practice with her older sister a game where one person would lay on the bed in a position and hold still. Her sister would leave the room for fifteen seconds and in those fifteen seconds Fanol had to subtlety change her position. When her sister came back she would have to say what had changed, and she only got one chance. Then they would switch; Fanol would leave and come back trying to figure what was different. They did that game every day for fun, but also for training to know if anything looked different around the house.
Fanol knew she hadn’t touched her mail since yesterday night after Anya left. Tentively she picked up her mail and sorted through it. It would have be perfectly in order if it wasn’t for the new paper letter stuck in second to last. Fanol opened the letter and hesitantly read it.
Dear Rif-half-stejar,
I know Lucifer has contacted you by now. That means you are the one to release him. I can help; in fact, you need my help. Lucifer told you to meet in the cemetery, right? You can’t get into that cemetery unless you pass a test. Meet me one in the park across from your college. Don’t forget as I will find you.
