This was horrible for you. Being stuck on this island with all these people, and only one of them was someone you knew. A girl named Lili that you trained with; the girl was someone that you had known since childhood.

The girl in question bounded to you, her long hair in a ponytail. She was dressed like usual, although something like that wasn't important to you. She was to fight in the tournaments, being chosen be the leader of your clan specifically for her abilities.

"Are you here to see me win, sister?" Lili smiled, her dark brown eyes shining with excitement. Many times you had found comfort in those eyes, and today was no different. As if it were on instinct, you smiled back at her and nodded.

"I came to watch my sister make our clan proud." You chuckled, giving her a light hug before she had to excuse herself to prepare for her fight. As she did, though, a man strode up to you. You could feel his eyes wander over your body, and almost knew that he had done the same to Lili's backside as she skipped away.

It wasn't long before he spoke.

"She's a cutie, ain't she?" He thought aloud, making you sigh softly and turn to face him. He was from Earthrealm, which didn't surprise you; the choice of outfit, however, took you by surprise only slightly. After recovering quickly, you crossed your arms.

"I hate to disappoint you, but she has already promised herself to her clan. There is no need for her to engage in a relationship-"

"I mean, you're a cutie too. Name's Johnny Cage, doll." He pulled his glasses down a bit and winked st you, and you had to hold back the want to roll your eyes. "I heard her call you sister...Are you two related or something?" He asked, either not hearing or completely dodging your denial of his flirtation toward your clan sister. You chuckled at this, although it annoyed you slightly. He was oblivious to your ways, but that was to be expected. You opened your mouth to say more, but another man addressed the crowd of fighters and stopped you before you could speak.

Quickly, he explained the rules of the fight; then with a wave of his hand, Lili had entered the small arena before them. You swallowed nervously, noticing how completely emotionless she looked as she stood and waited for her opponent.

However, you didn't expect the Earthrealmer standing beside you to speak out. After calling this all a play or a game, the other man- whom you later knew as Shang Tsung- smirked.

"Her first opponent shall be...Johnny Cage." He called, sitting down as the small audience applauded.

"Me? Fight a girl? Alright, I guess I can manage it." Johnny smiled, walking to the center of the arena and getting all but too close to your clan sister. He whispered something to her, making her eyes narrow and her body move into  fighting stance. Johnny did the same, and soon the fight began.

Lili held her own on the first round, but the second and third...she didn't fair too well. You could only watch as Johnny soon overpowered her, knocking her to the ground and weakening her enough to were she was almost unconscious. Your heart stopped as Shang Tsung declared Johnny the winner, commanding that the Earthrealmer finish your friend.

He stood over Lili for a moment, her head hung in defeat. You both were taught that after a loss, you needed to be ready for death; after all, it was seen as an honor to be killed by the victor. Instead, however...he looked at you, waving for you to come closer.

"Hey, come get her. She's kinda hurt." He said, his voice completely different than before; it was kind. You nodded and unconsciously stepped forward, not hesitating to help Lili stand to her feet. You two exchanged sideways glances for a moment before you helped her walk back to your shared rooms so that she would be able to be treated. You made a backwards glance towards Johnny, who winked again and waved.

Later in the day, as evening started to creep into the sky, you sat outside to be alone with your thoughts. Meditation was your clan's favorite way to relax, and that was exactly what you were doing. The wind rustled your hair, and although your eyes were closed you could sense the presence of someone coming towards you. You tilted your chin up slightly, not opening your eyes.

"Whoever I hear coming, you aren't going to scare me." You said, holding back he urges to smile whenever you heard someone groan behind you. They approached and sat down, and you didn't have to open your eyes to know who it was. Their voice was all you needed to hear.

"Hey sweetheart, whatcha up to?" Johnny asked, leaning forward a bit to watch you. You opened one of your eyes to look at him, your head still tilted up from your meditation. He had a smile on his face and his glasses were gone; he didn't really look half bad, now that you thought about it. You decided to humor him.

"I'm meditating." You responded, closing your eye again he said something that made you open both and stare at him.

"You got room for a partner?" He asked, crossing his legs as he sat next to you. Blush spread across your cheeks; members of your clan meditated with outsiders all the time, but you'd never done this. You thought his question through for a moment before you simply nodded, holding your hands at your lap. You instructed him on proper breathing, resisting the urge to laugh whenever he said something stupid. Once you had him settled, he relaxed into it rather quickly. You settled again and started to relax, but we're shaken out of it by him speaking.

Again.

"Hey, I wanted to tell you that I'm sorry for kinda...beating your friend." He started, reaching up to nervously rub the back of his neck as you stared at him. "My parents taught me to never beat up on girls, and I feel bad for going against that today." He continued, stopping as an embarrassed blush spread across his cheeks. "I just hope that she's okay, and she doesn't take it personally."

"She will face...backlash from the clan, but..." You cleared your throat, keeping the explanation of what would happen to Lili vague. "Nothing happened to her that she couldn't heal from. I thought I would lose her today, in all honesty." You admitted, shrugging your shoulders a bit as he turned fully towards you. He had a bit of a shocked look on his face.

"I wouldn't ever kill anyone that didn't deserve it; it isn't fair for her to die only because she lost a fight." He blurted, then sighed an sat back. You were a little surprised with his reaction, and laughed softly whenever he returned to his position rather quickly.

"You're overthinking it; she will be okay." She reassured him, giving him a little smile before you returned to your meditating position.

"You're cute whenever you smile." He muttered, moving so that his shoulder was pressed slightly against yours. He was warm, and it felt nice. You didn't say anything in reply, but didn't push him away.

You let the moment settle, your newfound meditation partner happy with himself, sitting next to such a pretty girl. You felt content as well; maybe he wasn't as bad as you thought.
