5 Months Later

Beckett’s POV

I wake up because my dreaded alarm is going off. Today is my first day back at work so i have to get up earlier than i am used to.

I roll onto my right and sit up on the edge of the bed trying to remember what i need to do before i leave.

I need to have a shower, get dressed, brush my teeth, make breakfast, Wake up Rick and Finlay, Get Finlay changed for the day. Make him a few bottles and place them in the fridge, Feed him a bottle, Pack my bag and then leave. I think that is all.

I get up and get in the shower and then walk back into the bedroom with my towel on and choose my clothes which takes longer than i hoped it would because Rick had forgotten to do the laundry so i couldn’t find my jeans. After i am finally dressed, i make some pancakes and eat a few myself and then i go and wake up Finlay. I get him changed into his new jeans and orange and grey striped t-shirt we bought him a few days ago. Once he is ready, i place him into his bouncer and then wake up Rick. Once i have completed that task, i make a few bottles for Finlay and put them in the fridge but i keep one out and heat it up and feed it to Finlay. Once i have finished feeding him, Rick finally comes out of the room and takes Finlay from me so that i can grab my phone and bag.

Just before i leave, i stand behind the couch where Rick is sitting with Finlay and i lean down, giving them both a kiss before grabbing the car keys and leaving for work.

Once the elevator door opened, i was welcomed by Ryan and Espo who were waiting for me. Other than them popping in to see if Finlay and i were ok, i haven’t properly seen them since the birth of Finlay.

Ryan steps forward and hugs me while Espo stands there smiling at us.

“Feeling any better Beckett?” Espo says.

“Yeah much better thanks” I reply as i leave Ryan’s arms and walk towards Espo who also gives me a hug.

“It’s great to have you back Beckett” Says Ryan.

“It’s great to be back, not that i do not want to be at home with Rick and baby Finlay but it is nice to get out” I say as i remove myself from Espo’s arms.

“So show us a picture of our Nephew then” Ryan says excitedly.

I grab my phone out of bag and sift through all my pictures until i find the one of Castle, my Dad and Finlay that we took when we went to visit.

“Here” I say as i pass them my phone.

I smile is placed on both of their faces.

“He is gorgeous” said Ryan as he passes the phone to Espo.

“Yeah he is” I reply.

“He looks just like his father” said Espo as he passed me back my phone.

“yeah he does” I reply.

“So is there a case?” i ask.

“No just loads of boring paperwork” Ryan answers as we start to walk towards our desks.

When i get to my desk i can see a big pile of paperwork. Great i thought they were kidding when they said there was a lot.

I but my bag down and sit down as just as i am about to start filling out the first page, my phone starts going off. I switch it on to find a big picture of Rick which makes me panic a bit. What if something has happened to Finlay. I quickly pick up the phone and i hear his voice.

“Hello”

“Hey Kate it’s me. I was just wondering if you had made some bottles for Finlay this morning or if i need to make him some?”

“No i made him some and put them in the fridge”

“Oh ok thank you. I think we have run out of  baby milk so later i will take Finlay for a walk and we will go and pick some up”.

“Ok babe, remember to warm his bottle or he will not drink it but not too hot otherwise it will burn his mouth”.

“I know babe don’t worry i know what i am doing” .

“Yeah sorry i keep forgetting that you have had Alexis and you managed to raise her yourself”.

“Hey don’t worry. Anyway i have gotta go, Finlay is still tired so i have to put him back to sleep but i will see you later”.

“Ok yeah i will see you later bye”.

“Bye, Love you”.

“Love you too and tell Finlay, Mommy misses him”.

“I will just wait a sec”.

“Ok”.

“Finlay say bye to Mommy because she has to get back to her work”.

“Bye baby, see you later. Love you lots and lots”.

“Bye”

“Bye”.

“Hey was that Castle?” Ryan asks when he looks up from his work.

“Yeah he was just wondering if i had made Finlay any bottles this morning” I replied as i picked up my  pen and started my paperwork.

I wasn’t even 10 minutes later when Gates left her office and called me into her office.

“Hey Beckett, i just need you to sign some paperwork saying that you have finished your maternity leave” Gates says as she passes me a pen and a bunch of papers.

Once i have finished reading them and signing them i pass them back.

“Is that all sir?” I ask her.

“No, do you know when your husband is coming back to work also” She asks me.

“he said he will be back at work when we get the next case because he doesn’t do paperwork anyway” I tell her.

“Ok, can i see a picture of your little boy, i haven’t seen him since you were in hospital” she says as i pass her my phone with the same picture as the  one i showed the boys.

“Oh he is a cutie, he looks so much like his father” She says as she passes me back my phone.

“Yeah everyone says that” I reply.

“Umm….well that’s all, you are free to get back to your paperwork. Welcome back detective beckett” she says as she looks down at the papers  she was  reading before i came in.

“Thank you sir” I say as i leave her office and go back to my desk so that i can finally finish my paperwork.
