Hanging out on the rooftop was quite ideal. Especially since tonight was a cloudless sky with a bright moon and many stars. With the nice breeze blowing on my face I put my book down. Yes, I'm very interested in 'The Maze Runner' lately now that I have just finished the entire series of 'The Hunger Games'. But I am even more interested in having a break to look at the sky.
I stare directly into the moon. And I can't but feel like it is great big pearl in the inky black sky that dazzles with shining lights.
As I sit there, legs dangling off the side of the building, I hear something make a sound like reinforced glass dropping onto something solid. I quickly turn around as soon as I heard it. I recognized the green glow that radiated off of it. My eyes widened in shock and fear. Mutagen.
As fast as possible, I swooped up the canister containing the substance. In the distance, I see dark figures starting to approach me. Instincts kicking in, I hid under the wooden couch that was part of our apartments' rooftop deck set. Clutching the canister, I hushed my breath and waited. As I did, I saw feet step onto my apartment rooftop. They stayed there, roaming around before finally moving onto another rooftop.
I silently sighed in relief but I did not get out from my hiding place. This was a safety measure. And I'm glad I did. Because not long after the group of feet left, another lone pair found their way onto the rooftop. They made their way straight towards the wooden couch I was under. My breath hitched without my meaning to.
The new figure crouched down and layed down on his stomach. I was met with agate eyes that were surrounded by a purple mask. My insides did flips as I realized I had been found out. But what was a real surprise was that the figure stood up and called out gently.
"Hey... you can come out. I promise, I won't hurt you. I just need the mutagen."
I waited a few moments but then decided to slowly slide out of hiding as I was still holding on tightly to the canister of glowing green goo. When I stood to my full height, I noticed that the figure was a giant six foot turtle with a bo staff on his back. I looked at him curiously. He just smiled and blushed slightly in return. I couldn't not notice the adorable gap in his teeth as he did so.
"So, miss, can I have that canister of mutagen now? Oh! And- um- I'm... Donatello."
"(Y/N). Why do you need the mutagen?"
"I'm going to make retromutagen with it. I have to reverse some accidental mutations and I have no more mutagen left to make another batch. So... Could I please?"
With a quick nod, I gently place the mutagen in his arms. He smiled at me with a very grateful gleam in his eyes.
"So you're a mutant turtle? That has ninja training or something?", I question Donatello.
He rubs the back of his neck nervously. He looked somewhere between ashamed and regretful. But he answers anyways," Yeah. I am. Sorry if I freak you out a bit. That wasn't my intention."
"You don't have to be sorry. I think it's awesome."
"Really?"
I nod immediately and he perks back up again. His happy gleam shines through his eyes like fireworks this time.
"Thanks, (Y/N). I'm glad that I didn't scare you. Unfortunately, I have to get going now. So see ya later. For now, of course." And like that, he was gone as he silently jumped from roof to roof into the night.
