Sorry this one took so long....I had a major case of writers block, and needed some advice from my dear friend (also a writer, actually, she writes Love in Wenona :D) AbigailSiedschlag :) Well, here you go! Hope you all enjoy the 3rd chapter :)
Chapter 3:
We finally make it to Jenna's house and by then we've eaten all of the cookies. She pulls onto the dirt road driveway and puts the car in park. I step out of the car and a giant, flying ball of fur attacks me with slobbery kisses.
"Hey Juno, how've you been?" I ask the dog, a beautiful Belgian sheepdog. She answers me by thumping her massive tail, causing her rear end to shake along with it. I laugh and hug her to me. Her other "dog", an enormous black timber wolf with startling blue eyes, struts towards me, head held high. He gently licks my face, nuzzling my neck and growling softly in his throat.
"Now, how could I ever forget you, Fell?" I joke, stroking his massive head, scratching behind his velvety ears. I look up to see Jenna doubled over in laughter.
"What?" I ask her, suddenly self conscious.
"Nothing, it's just that you look like an idiot, talking to my dogs in a baby voice," she gasps. I snort and gently push the dogs off of me.
"Whatever. Lets go inside, I'm getting eaten alive out here," I tell her. We bound up the stairs and through the front door, quickly going up the stairs and into Jenna's room. I fall back onto her bed and sigh.
"I wish Philip were here," I tell her quietly. She suddenly jumps up and screeches,
"WE FORGOT TO GO GET EVAN!" She runs out the door and calls back to me, "I'll be right back! I need to go get Evan, so feel free to make yourself at home!" With that she runs out the front door, shutting it haphazardly behind her. I smirk and close my eyes, ready to wait. Images of my mother flash behind my lids, and my heart begins to ache. Why can't he just leave for good? I think, subconsciously clutching my ribs. I know the bruises are still there, where he kicked me over and over until I passed out. I try to recall if Gavin still has the black eyes from the broken nose he suffered, caused by my fathers anger over some other problem at work and taking his rage out on Gavin. I cover my face and feel the tears that have sprung from my eyes and down my face, onto Jenna's bright blue comforter. I wipe them quickly away, embarrassed at my lack of control. I turn onto my side and let my hair cover my face.
"Daniella Elizabeth Grey, please tell me you aren't sleeping!" I jump at the sound of Evan's voice, my eyes wide and heart pounding like a drum. "Oh, don't be so dramatic. I didn't scare you that much," he says, rolling his eyes. Seeing that I was still frozen, he pushes me onto my back and straddles me, pinning me in place. "What's wrong with you?" he demands, a mischievous twinkle in his dark brown eyes.
"Nothings wrong with me, you inane, lanky gorilla," I say lamely. My head flops to the side, my hair once again covering my face. I wait for his weight to lift, but it doesn't. I peek out from my hair and see his eyes boring into the side of my head. I let slip a small, dark chuckle. Groaning, he finally rolls off of me. My hands tingle as the blood rushes back into my fingers.
"Wait, where's Jenna?" I wonder aloud, noticing her absence. He stops in the doorway and slowly turns to me, a creeper smile growing on his boyish face.
"Oh, I don't know, maybe if you beg me, I'll tell you where she is. Maybe I'll even let her live." Laughing like a villain, he whips around and takes off down the stairs. I feel a similar grin creep onto my hair laden face, and I take off after his heavy footfall. I stop at the foot of the stairs, feeling my surroundings for any slight movements. In my peripheral vision, I see a flash of color. Adrenaline pumps through my veins as I dodge Evan's attack.
"Ha! Think you can catch me, do you? Well, you've got to be faster than that!" I dash into the kitchen, head turned to look behind my back, and run smack into Jenna. "Holy mother of God!" I gasp, clutching my fast beating heart.
"What are you guys doing?" she asks sternly, her face as serious as my mini-heart attack. I look at my feet and give her a sheepish grin.
"Well, we were waiting for you to show up out of nowhere and we got bored, so we became the hero and the villain and you were left to be the damsel in distress. I was the hero, of course." I grab her hand and call out, "I've found her, evil doer! You shan't harm a golden hair on her head!" I pull her to my side and peek around the corner. Seeing no one, I slip through the living room, Jenna in tow, and hurry up the stairs.
"You guys are seriously wacked in the head," she chuckles. I shush her and slowly tiptoe down the hall, pausing only to press my ear up to Jenna's bedroom door. I push it open and wait for Evan to jump out. When he doesn't, I go in and check the closet, the bathroom, and under the bed. Jenna meanders to the bed, having to jump to get in it. "He must not be in here," she tells me. I sigh in relief and join her on the bed.
"I wonder where he went," I think aloud, gazing into space. She is quiet for a moment.
"Maybe he had to pee," she finally says. She turns her hooded green eyes towards me. "So, dear Daniella, would you please tell me wha----oof!" Her voice is suddenly cut off by a pouncing Evan, who, in turn, rolls them both off of the bed. I sit in stunned silence, and, finally, I almost bust my ribs in laughter.
"Oh--gasp--my--gasp--God!" I manage around my laughter. "You should have seen your faces! It was priceless!" I finally get a hold on my breathing and watch in amusement as they untangle their limbs and rise from the floor.
"What the hell is your problem, Evan!? You could have KILLED me!" she shouts in mock anger. She rains vicious but joking blows onto his body. He snorts and wrestles her arms to her sides.
"It was hilarious, and you know it, so don't try to be all 'Oh, you could have wounded me like a little virgin flower!'," he tells her, using his best southern belle voice. She glares at him and they get onto the bed without hesitation. For the next two hours, we talk about our day, the gossip we've heard, and anything else you can imagine. I look at the antique clock on Jenna's dresser and note the time. I mentally groan and roll off of the bed.
"I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's getting late, and I probably need to get home," I say, grabbing my shoes. They look at the clock simultaneously.
"Alright, I'll drop you off," Jenna sighs, sliding off of the bed. She grabs her keys off of the hook beside her door. "Come on, Evan, I'm bringing you home, too." He groans and slides off of the bed.
"Okay, I'm coming," he wines. Dragging his feet, he slips out of the door and down the hall, disapearing down the stairs. I follow close behind Jenna. When we get outside, Evan is waiting beside the car. Jenna unlocks the doors and we climb inside, turning on the radio. On the way back to my house, Jenna and Evan get into an argument over which artists are better between Rihanna and Usher, leaving me to my thoughts. I don't notice when we stop until Jenna announces it.
"I'll see you guys later, ok?" I tell them, jumping out of the car. I turn back around and lean my head into the open window. "Have a good night, you two." They wish the same to me, and drive off. I wave at the retreating shape and slowly turn around. Now, if only I could have a good night, I think grimly. I walk up the front walk, heart pounding, and through the front door. I hear the sound of the television, the smell of beer strong in the air. I groan internally. My father is home.
