They thrived in the garden full of berries and roses and wild nuts;
the trees, flowers, castle walls a witness to their love.
He gazed at them with such envious eyes; for he wondered, what is it that Princess Alexa did not see in him?
She is the maiden that he wishes to wed.
Yet he is not the man she wishes to.
With a heavy heart, he turned, left the two and fled the small kingdom to come home to his.
With a frown on his face.
The two of them laid upon the grass of the garden under a tree; telling stories about their childhood, and so much more.
"I love you." She whispered with hope in her eyes.
"I love you, Alexa." He grins at her, rubbing his nose against hers making her laugh.
"My Alexa, my princess, my queen." He whispers fondly, then leaning in, but quickly kissing her cheek instead.
"Has anyone ever kissed you before?" He whispers tenderly.
"No. No one has ever kissed me." She shyly smiles, looking down as she bit her lip.
He grasped her chin, making her gaze at him.
"Good. I shall save that for our wedding then."
She gasps, her eyes filled with tears as her most fervent dream came true.
"Will you marry me?"
"Yes! I will, oh, my love I will!" He kisses her cheek, laughing at her.
"I told you I would save that for our wedding." He grins bashfully.
"We shall tell mother and father about this! Oh they would be truly delighted."
They did tell her mother and father, and they were more than happy.
A few days later, they were set to return to her fiancé's kingdom.
"I will miss you, my Alexa." Her mother tears up.
"Mother, I shall visit you and father often, and you will see me within two days for the preparation of our wedding." She smiles, hugging her mother and father until she finally steps into the extravagant carriage her love summoned for them.
And they left Princess Alexa's kingdom to retreat to her fiancé's kingdom.
They left, with a smile on her face.
And for the first time since the history of Princess Alexa's suitors, one of them retreated back to his kingdom with a smile on his face and the pure, beautiful maiden herself in his arms.
