I look to the matches with crushed hope, but then I think of that kind dark woman and how she may be freezing. I decide that I won't let her kindness go to waste. I light the first match.
The match provides very little warm, but still enough to take a little of the cold if only for a little bit. The tiny flickering flame takes me back to a faint memory, when my family we're still alive. I go back to when I was four years old. It's July with a slight cool breeze in the air and carrying with it was the sweet songs of birds. The lush green grass is soft on my bare feet. My lime green dress is flowing in the soft summer wind under the warm gleaming sun, but with little bit of cloud coverage. In the air the smell of jasmine and honeysuckle are strong.
"Anita" calls a tender sweet voice. I turn around to see my mama calling my name. She's in the dress she was buried in, (a long dark emerald green dress), and her red hair looks like it's made out of fire while her jade eyes glimmered like jewles under the sun.
I asked her "Where's Daddy" and she told me, he's bringing my big brother Felix. Then all of a sudden they come running up the hill, with both of their dark chestnut braided hair flying in the air behind them. They both have copper skin, but, (unlike me), big brother got our mama's eyes. My daddy had dark reassuring brown eyes, but my eyes can't decide whether it's green or brown.
We start out picking wild flowers, but then we get enough and then go chasing after blue butterflies. We always let them go, because such a gentle creature shouldn't be own. Mama soon get us all to sit down so she could weave the wild flowers in our hair, but as soon as she was done with us she let us go. She then tackles daddy and I hear her whisper to him.
"I'll forever love you Duncan" He then whispers to her before big brother and I join in the tackling fest.
"Holly no one could possibly love someone as I do you"
Big brother and I soon join into the fest, and then we're laughing and hugging one another like we need the air to breath. Then the next thing I know is that I'm standing in front of they're graves in early winter. I then hear whisper that sounded like,"Don't give up" and that's when the first match abruptly went out.
