— Arabella...?

Everyone turned around to look at me.

— Don't trust her, Jerome. She works for the boss.

— Follow me. All of you.

Arabella turned around and started walking towards the bedrooms.

Everything was silent, except for the sound Arabella's heels tapping against the floor. Her black hair was pulled back in a tight ponytail, making her blue eyes look bigger.

We walked for a long time until we got to a dark corner away from everything.

— First of all, I'm here to rescue you. We need to be quick or someone will notice we're here. We're escaping tomorrow night, so be ready. Also we'll need a plan, but we can't do it here. Tonight, on Jerome's bedroom. I'll talk to the guards, they trust me. They think I'm loyal to the system, so we won't have any trouble. Now, I'm going to go back to the living room. You'll wait five minutes, and then you'll go back too.

She turned around and walked away.

We stayed silent a few seconds.

— You think we should trust her?

— Yes. I know her. She wouldn't betray me.

We waited five minutes, as she had told us, and we walked back to the living room.

——–——————————

Dinner time was over, so I walked to my bedroom. I sat on my bed and waited for everyone to come.

The first one to arrive was Arabella. We sat in awkward silence for a few minutes.

— So...you...

— Yeah, pretty much...How are you here, anyway? I thought you had to be dead to be here. You're not dead, are you?

— That's what they tell you? That you're dead?

Before she could say anything else, there was a knock on the door.

— Come in!

The door opened slowly, and Tate looked inside, without coming in. — Hi.

— Oh, for fuck's sake, Tate! Go inside already! – I heard Kieran screaming from behind. I laughed as Tate walked in, and Dandy looked at Kieran with an angry grin, but he didn't seem to care.

— Okay, enough. This is not a game, we're dealing with serious stuff here.

Kieran sat next to Piper on the floor, next to her was Dandy, who had an arm around Tate's waist.

— This is what we're going to do...

After Arabella had explained everything, no one seemed to disagree. It was a pretty good plan.

Of course we couldn't risk it, with everyone going back to their dormitories, it would look suspicious, so they stayed the night. Kieran and Piper were making out in the corner, while Dandy and Tate were talking about something that I didn't really care about. I couldn't stop thinking about Arabella, who was trying to get some sleep in one of the improvised beds we had made. How she might've felt when I died. Which reminded me of earlier that day. "It's been a long time." She had said. I've only been there one week. What did she meant by "a long time"?

I rolled over on my bed, trying to clear my thoughts and get some sleep. But I couldn't, the guilt was eating me alive, even though it wasn't my fault. I didn't choose to die. I didn't ask for Theo to stab me in front of everyone. But still. I felt guilty because I didn't see it coming. If I hadn't trusted him, maybe non of this would've happened. On the other hand, if non of this would've happened, I would've never met Dandy and Tate, who were the closest friends I've ever had, along with Arabella. I kept fighting with myself until I fell asleep, who knows how many hours later.
