they had been traveling for a few hours before the gas light beeped. Emma pulled into a gas station hoping in finding a car with gas that she could steal from. she got out of the car and closed the door quietly so she wouldn't wake Noah. she got out and walked up to the door. she wanted to go in and try to look for something to eat. but the door had wood boards all over it and would not budge. she banged on the door in hopes of getting inside with no luck, but as she gave up and turned around she saw a large man holding a gun to her face. he had red hair which made him a koi. she was surprised and speechless. the man was big and smelly and he held the rifle firmly. "now there Missy, don't you go and do anything stupid" he spoke in a booming voice. "i wanna know why you be coming and banging on my store?" he asked her.

"i..i..i just stopped looking for gas. i thought this place was abandoned. i am sorry..yy. i..i just wanted to look for food." she whimpered

"well i don't got any food but a man has needs that i think a young lady like you could help me with" he said as he worked on pulling the zipper of his pants down. but he was stopped by the sound of a gun being coked.

"i don't think that young lady could help you with your needs, but like she said we are in need of gas, so i am going to give you one chance to give that gun to her and help us fill up our tank. other wise i will pull the trigger and piss on your rotting corpse" Noah said in a steady demanding slow voice. the man gave his rifle to Emma and turned to face Noah. they looked each other deep in the eyes and Noah did not take the gun away from the man's head. the mad went and filled the tank of the van and then he filled two large red gas cans and put them in the back of the car. he grumbled the whole time and every action was slow and hateful. he rarely took his eyes off Noah and gave him an evil glare the whole time he filled the tanks. when he was done he stood up and looked Noah in the eyes. "get in the car Emma" he said in a disappointed tone. she wanted to tell him no and that she was going to stay but the way he said it made her shuffle into the driver's seat and wait. she heard and gunshot and cursing and screaming. she closed her eyes tight. she did not know what happened and who got shot all she did was try to block out the world.

Noah watched as the man fell to the ground and held his leg trying to stop the bleeding that seeped past his fingers and pooled at the ground around him. the dark thick red mixed with the rainwater. he moaned and shouted and cursed at Noah. but Noah just looked down in pity and hate. "you are very lucky i did not aim for your head, don't you ever, ever, fuck with me or my sister you hear?" he whispered into the ear of the man. he stood himself up and slowly walked to the van and got in.

his face showed no emotion and he looked forward. "you should have woke me, you know better than to go someplace without me" he said, Emma looked down at her lap, "let's get out of here" he said and she pulled away from the gas station. he cleaned the rifle that Emma had put into the van as she drove. he kept scrubbing until the anger drained out of him and the sun began to rise. it was still raining and it was getting heavier. they could see lightning in the distance and the thunder boomed. it scared Morgan and she hid under the seat before drifting off again. "pull over, i will drive for a bit so you can sleep" Noah said. Emma promptly did what he asked. he was a bad driver and he did not like to be behind the wheel. as he hit the gas and the car moved back on the road Emma said

"thank you for everything, you are a good brother" she said and smiled. she closed her eyes and went into a deep slumber. he waited for her to close her eyes before he cracked a smile. he looked at the road and focused on driving, but the long he drove the more his mind wandered into distant memories. he remembered borderline, he remembered the community and the walls and he remembered the day they had to leave, but no matter how hard he tried he could not remember what came before that. he wanted to have been able to see his mother and father and to know what it was like to meet his parents. he wanted to get to know them and be a part o a family. he had a feeling that they were good people and all he wanted was their love, but they were gone. his sister had raised him after their mother had died. she took him to borderline and she was the one who helped him when he got sick. he owed her everything, he owed her his life.
